A young Storm King tramps through the snow, dark thoughts and schemes clouding his mind.

Not exactly sure what prompted this piece, but I'm trying to bust through my weird slump one piece at a time. Although I haven't seen the MLP movie completely yet, Storm King and his species are really interesting to me! He's a character I feel had a lot of potential- but his performance, from the few clips I've seen of him- was extremely disappointing, to be honest. So, in true DuneFilly fashion, I decided to completely throw out canon and work something out that's a little more complex for this guy than the typical "evil for evil's sake" kind of villain trope, hehe.

The Storm King was a runt in his native land, known as Hyperborea to Equestria- a remote, small, craggy island with harsh living conditions located as north as you could go in the Frozen North region. Akin to Yetis, the SK's species is naturally stocky and strong in build, but the Storm King cut a less intimidating figure among his kind, making him an outcast in his tribe. What he lacked in size and strength, however, he more than made up for with a sharp and conniving mind, with tons of ambition to boot. The SK wanted more in life than just mere survival and he desperately wanted to climb the social hierarchy ranks of his people, so, using his excellent manipulation skills, he was able to craft a coup to overthrow the tribe's former system of power and convinced his people that he alone could lead them into conquest and glory- all for his personal benefit, of course.

There's a lot more I can spiel about the Storm King, but for now, I'll just leave it at that. I'm still not 100% sure if the events of the movie will be canon in Harmonyverse, but I at least know the locations and characters will be integrated into my verse someway, somehow, even if I alter a few things to suit my liking (like the origins of the Storm King, hehe). As to when I introduce any movie-related aspects into the Harmonyverse timeline, I still don't know. The Storm King may be introduced later on into the future or somewhere in the past history of Equestria, who knows! All I know so far is that I had fun making this piece and figuring out Storm King's background (and facial/body structure! Seriously, it was an interesting challenge). Enjoy, folks!
