Given his history with the Crystal Empire, the relationship between Empress Cadance and (reformed) Lord Sombra began with a rough start. Cadance had maintained a deep resentment and mistrust for the stallion throughout his reformation, initially opposed to the idea in the first place- she was outvoted by the other princesses in the matter, however, and so kept her feelings to herself, though it was always easy to catch onto to her displeasure whenever Sombra and Cadance's path's crossed. Luna tried to keep the two away from each other as much as she could until she felt Sombra was finally ready to face his past and visit the Crystal Empire once more. Cadance maintained her civility and listened to Sombra's apology, but still remained unconvinced of Sombra's changed heart. As one of his final lessons, Sombra was to remain in the Empire for a couple nights per Luna's orders in order to give him time to let his past go- leaving Sombra and Cadance to have plenty of interactions in the meantime. Sombra made several efforts to try and talk with Cadance, who was always cold towards him until she slowly began to realize Sombra's apologies were genuine, and after seeing how much his past pained him, Cadance's heart softened. She became ashamed of her own prejudice towards the stallion, but still remained hesitant to fully forgive him- until she discovered the budding romance between him and Luna. Cadance then fully accepted that he had changed, since he had learned to love. She forgave Sombra, relieving much of the hurt between them both, and slowly a friendship between the two grew as she began to encourage his romantic pursuits. After Sombra became Luna's royal consort, Cadance and Sombra's friendship had grown stronger- Sombra becoming a sort of uncle figure to Cadance, and Cadance becoming another source of comfort and support to him (other than Luna herself). Sombra also passed on the secrets of the Empire and the castle onto Cadance, becoming a helpful adviser to her in times of difficulty. Cadance in turn has become a valuable partner in trying to figure out Sombra's past, which has remained mysterious and out of reach to even Sombra himself, who can hardly remember who he used to be after falling to darkness. The two uncover a bunch of clues when exploring the secrets of the castle, and are determined to piece everything together one day. Overall, they maintain a strong relationship with each other and are great friends in present Harmonyverse canon.

This has been sitting in my files for ages, and it nearly took ages to finish, too. Still, I'm relieved to finally be getting this out to you guys- even if I had to give up on shading because my hand started cramping up a lot through this, hehe. Sombra and Cadie's relationship is super sweet and wholesome, and I fully enjoy working with them both in Harmonyverse. Some notes about this: I decided not to give Sombra a cutiemark for plot reasons- more on that may be explored in the future. Also, since Sombra lost his horn, he made himself a crystal substitute- he rarely uses it, however, since he tries to avoid magic now, always afraid that if he were to cast the wrong spell, he'd run the risk of falling down his old path. He only uses his horn for business purposes, whether that be to defend Equestria from dark creatures, or having tea with his dear little Cadance, hehe. The background was nabbed from Google (and thank goodness, too- I'm all juiced out to make a brand spanking new background). Enjoy, guys!
