Description
It was quiet as Twilight walked down the hallway, her steps echoing softly off the castle walls. As she turned the corner, she noticed a warm light coming from one of the rooms- Starswirl's room. Twilight's brow furrowed in concern, but her worry subsided once she approached the closed door silently, able to distinguish two familiar shapes from behind the glass. She strained her ears to catch bits and pieces of Scorpan and their daughter's conversation inside.Star, it's normal to feel different... When I first got here, I felt weird too, but... You and I are the same, sweetheart... Starswirl, if you could only see Tambelon for yourself... We wouldn't stand out that badly... Keep your chin up... Maybe one day thing's will get better and who knows, we might even be able to go...
Twilight took a deep breath and closed her eyes, slightly slumping up against the wall. It was moments like these that she felt absolutely helpless- and she hated it. Her heart ached when she heard Starswirl giggling enthusiastically inside, her voice still evidently trembling with the remainder of tears.Β
I'm an outsider in my own family.
Sighing forlornly, Twilight continued her walk down to her and Scorpan's room. It was hard on her, too, though Starswirl didn't know it. Seeing her daughter struggle so much with how... different she was made her worry. In fairness, she didn't know exactly how it felt like, but it scared her that her own daughter felt she couldn't approach her about this. What kind of mother was she if she couldn't comfort her daughter when she most needed it? Of course Scorpan was always there for her, but not being able to support Starswirl together hurt more than she'd ever tell. All the this talk about Tambelon, too, worried her. She couldn't blame him for telling her stories about his homeland, but it seemed like everyday Starswirl gazed westward more often with a longing and searching look.
Home seemed to be drifting away more and more from her heart, and she knew Starswirl dreamed of the lands outside Equestria... away from ponies... and away from her.

I haven't done much with Twilight at all, aside from general Twipan stuff, so I thought I'd focus on her a little!
When Twilight and Scorpan had Starswirl, they were so excited about being parents. Little Star was their whole world as she grew up, and they took care to spend as much time with their daughter as much as they could, and they were able to create a strong bond as a family. Once Star grew older, however, she became much more reserved and wary as the duties of a princess began to fall upon her. She had always been a shy cub since childhood, but now her reluctance to socialize with others has caused both of them to worry. Starswirl, extremely self-conscience of being a non-pony creature ( a sphinx, to be precise), was beginning to cut herself off from the Equestrian world, afraid of the scrutiny she'd receive. Scorpan, being a non-pony creature himself, was a constant supporter during her slumps and frequent shut-ins inside the castle she'd stage- and more often than not, Twilight was left outside her door. While Starswirl felt more at ease about talking about her issues with her father, who knew exactly what she felt like and was able to console her, Twilight was mostly left out during these times, though not intentionally. Star just never felt super comfortable talking about her feelings with Twi, mostly because she felt she wouldn't understand. While they've always been close, these issues do cause them to drift apart a little once Star becomes a teenager, much to Twilight's endless worry.
Though they have trouble understanding one another, mother and daughter still love each other very much. She still has good moments with her, but sometimes Twilight struggles. Being a mom is tough sometimes. In the meantime, enjoy, guys!

Could you maybe do a piece showing Twilight finally telling Starswirl how she feels? If you want that is.

I would, but that doesn't come until a little later, I'm afraid. Stay tuned.

A childβs love is a fickle thing hard to grasp yet a rare and wonderful treasure indeed...a bond between mother and child can never be fully broken perhaps tested and stretched but always always one of the strongest things to exist in this world...

Oh yeah. Being a parent is hard, period. One minute your kids worship you, the next they're going through problems that they feel they can't tell you about. Which is why I respect any hard-working parents who do their damned best to help their kids

Basically, yeah, that sums up Twi's feelings.Β
Also- heck yeah, I love to support and respect those parents out there.
