Description I took the name for the aircraft in this image from the nickname given to Oldsmobile's "88" model in the 50's. I imagined what a 1930's racing plane would look like if jet-engine technology was common in that decade.

I'd say it looked more like the Desert Fox.

Coyote! This looks like a coyote from Crimson skies!

very cool! the color palette looks very 80's with lots of brights colors and reflects...and the mix with the 30`s concept looks great!

Much obliged!

Come to think of it, there is
a slightly 80's "vibe" to this
piece. It wasn't intentional,
mind you.

When I first saw this, I thought of the new Rocket Racing League where they race rocket planes. Good work.

Thanks for the fave.

BTW, who are the rocket racing league? I've never heard of them before.

They had their first full blown demonstration at Oshkosh this summer.

They want to start racing their inaugural season the end of this month if I remember correctly. This will be their first step to NASCAR in the sky, that will hopefully morph to around the world [as in low orbit] racing.

I looks way cool to me.

I just hope the air traffic problem doesn't get worse because of it.

Right now they have the races set up where they do not, sort of Star Wars like, but we will see. Home base is in New Mexico but I know they plan to race at places like Reno. They also want it where you can fly a simulated race on your computer, not only being fun but also looking for people with the talent needed to fly the virtual race course in a real rocket plane.

I think I might just take you up on your challenge.

Cool, let me know how it goes. Then see if RRL likes it and who knows what can happen from there.

Do you mean actually posting it to the RRL? What do you think might come of that?

I mean, that after you do your artwork. Contact the league and see if they would like to see it. I've talked to them about a being a crew chief and logistics expert and they responded. The worse they could say is no thanks, the best is come design rocket plane paint schemes for us. You never know unless you try and I have found out over life, you just might find something pleasant just by doing something nice. It also is a chance that might open further opportunities.

Good luck and please let me know how it goes.

You know what? I'm starting to find the prospect rather tempting. Do you have any contact information? Who do I get in touch with, there? Will they require me to have proficiency with certain graphics software?

While we're on the subject, I've recently put up a journal on my page offering 10 slots for comissions. So far, there have been no takers. It's at times like this that I feel like I just don't exist.

Go to the RRL website and click on the contact us.

As far as posting you have openings for commissions, I wish you luck. Most that I have ever got (and for me they are rare because my art is a sporadic hobby, especially as an adult) came from somebody looking at some of my stuff somewhere and saying that it was good and could I do "this" for them? It is all about getting seen by someone that wants something. That is why with your rocket racer, I thought of the RRL. They worst they can say is no thanks.

Would it be too late to contact the RRL now?

duraluminwolf In reply to LuftKrigare [2008-10-27 02:36:36 +0000 UTC]

What should I ask them when I contact them? I don't mean to waste your time by asking stupid questions, but I want a clear idea of what I want to say, and how to say it when I see them, without screwing my lines up.

As far as art is concerned, it's one of my passions in life. I've been doing it for a good part of my life, now.

I also thought if you did one of the RRL planes in this paint scheme, what a gorgeous machine you'd have. I would definitely be a fan.

Wow, Awsome work as always! I love your style on these! It would be so much more fun if aviation and car technology could be at that 1930s level now.

Yeah. Wouldn't it be more fun?

If you want to see a really cool racing plane, check out the Bugatti 100P Special. The project got underway just before the outbreak of WW2. All work was brought to a halt when France fell to Germany. Look it up on a search engine-I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
