This is a tutorial for an applique method that I employed on my SC3 Talim costume [link] . It is a very useful method for adding designs to any of your costumes, clothing, or even to monogram towels without an embroidery machine.Hope you find it useful!

I heard you can also use freezer paper for this, does it work just as well as applique paper

No, I would not recommend freezer paper or wax paper for this. Sometimes people use these papers for painting to prevent paint from bleeding outside of the lines, but freezer paper will not bond fabric to fabric, which is what I used the heat n' bond for.
If you wanted to skip the fabric background, then I would suggest using a tear away stabilizer behind your fabric to prevent it from wrinkling. You could probably use freezer paper as a stabilizer on the wrong side of your fabric, but that would be something in a separate tutorial.

okay, I just heard from other tutorials that you could but I actually found heat n bond and it does work wonders

umm i got a few questions (they are very noobish)
can u like print out what u want (like on regular paper) and use it then
and can it work on swimsuits

No, you wouldn't want to applique paper. Firstly the satin stitch would end up putting so many holes in the paper the paper would just rip, and secondly you wouldn't want paper sewn to fabric - particularly if you wanted to swim in it. Instead print the shape you want and cut it out of fabric, if it is a fancy design consider painting it on, or an iron on transfer.
Finally, you can do this using spandex (swim suit material) but be sure you pick up some tear away or water soluble stabalizer (find it in the embroidery section of the sewing store) and use it on the back of the fabric to keep it from stretching while you are appliqueing.
