One of the many direct results of LSD coming into existence, was the summoning of The Funk from it's distant galaxy of origin.
For you see, funk comes from outer space and only a key as powerful as Acid could unlock the door to said galaxy.
And once the door was ajar, the funk flowed into our world with a force the likes of which hasn't been seen since.

It is far more than just a style of music. . . It's a state of mind and being. Completely intrinsic to who you are. The Funk cannot be learned or given. It cannot be taken or faked. It cannot be taught or hidden. . . You're either funky or you're not. I usually don't entertain such a line of black and white thought, but it can't be helped here. This one is just a fact.

The Funk manifests it's self in several different ways. It's almost always in the form of one type of art or another.
But regardless of what kind of artist it takes the shape of, it will reveal it's self through the entirety of the being. Not just in the art produced, but in the way they speak. In their mannerisms and actions. In their attitude. But most evidently in the way they dress.
And here we come around to the subject of this piece. . . Bootsy Collins. No one dresses funkier.

Bootsy is one of the greatest bass guitarists to live on this timeline. And most certainly one of my biggest inspirations to learn to play (along with Les Claypool, Flea and Getty Lee.) He is largely responsible for the creation of my favourite methods of playing the instrument.
I truly believe that bass is meant to be funky above all else.

But beyond the impact of his channeling of The Funk through his space-bass, Bootsy achieves a level of funkiness few other's have.
Particularly through his appearance.
When I say NO ONE dresses funkier, I sincerely mean it.

I don't think anyone could. Not as naturally as it seems to come to him, anyway.
If you have to try to look funky. . . then you probably ain't, ya dig?

Anywho, I drew this specifically by request of the main man himself.
Through a series of life's weird happenstances, a sample of my best works were sent to him to see what he thought about my style. P-Funk recently lost one of their main illustrators when Pedro Bell left the Earthly Realm to return to the Mother-Ship. (Funk in peace, brother)

Pedro did much of their album covers and such. Pretty damn good artist. I've earned a lot of respect for the man in the past month.

Anyway, knowing they were gonna need to find a new Illustrator at some point, I figured I'd put myself out there.
Apparently, Bootsy said, "See if he can draw me." to his dude, who let my Aunt know. She's who hooked this whole thing up to begin with.
The message was relayed to me and now here we are. About a month later and I've drawn one of the best pieces I've ever done.
And far more importantly, I've proven to myself that I actually might just have some talent in these rickety old fingers.

I've only just sent it out to him so I still don't know what he thinks about it or if it'll actually lead to any work or not.
And honestly even if it doesn't, that's okay. I've got a goddamn funky-ass, cool drawing of Bootsy Collins, man!

The least that I hope for is that he likes it. . . And the most? Well fuck, man. . . who knows? Shit would be bonkers though.

And what was it Hunter S. Thompson said? "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Well, I fucking hope you're right Hunter. . .
Because these certainly are some weird times we're in now and I'm at a point in my life and skill level that, if I finally catch a break, I sure as shit won't waste it. I've been waiting for the right moment to pop up and when it does, I'll be ready for it.

Seize the day, my dear Deviants! Because you never know what weird opportunities the winds of Ka will blow your way.
