Work in Progress. Made completely in Photoshop based on one of my drawings. No other reference used.This is my first digital painting. I'm not sure what to do with the background so ideas are welcome. I'm not looking for photo-realism here so I don't think I'll add details smaller than the ones I already have in terms of shading (already you can't really see the brush strokes) but I can't help but feel like it could use less black and more...something.
I'm not sure if I want to show/make more of the monster. Maybe I could put some evil glowing eyes in the darkness or parts of smaller monsters.

Nice! I especially like the special effects of the magic surrounding the figure. The blood on the monsterβs teeth seems a bit unnecessary, in my humble opinion. I'm not sure it really needs more background. The darkness feels very ominous. All in all it's an impressive piece of work!

Thank you. Yeah the teeth aren't so great for some reason, so I'll make them more clean and shiny I think because when the image is small, you almost can't tell they're teeth so I definitely need to fix that.

looking nifty, and just a thought; maybe you could add something like the monsters claws/paws/wingtips or something along those lines, next to the head, that could make the monster more overwhelming.

Good idea. This started off as a concept drawing of a monster head which I painted afterwards so I was trying to avoid painting more of the creature's body. I definitely think maybe some wing tips coming out of the darkness would be great though so I think I'll go with that. Thanks.
