Description I really hope this will be useful for some people. I know I'm not saying anything "new" but I've did my best to include some stuff that usually i don't read at some SAI or coloring tutorials.

Thanks if you read it all. I know sometimes it might be boring, having so much text for a simple coloring step, but as english isn't my main language, I felt I had to be more specific with descriptions -anyways, sorry if my english isn't good enough or sounds like when a song is played over and ooooover again-

>3< Fullview of course, or you won't read anything hehehe.

OMAGAH I GOT A DD!!! THANKS TO EVERYONEEEE! *3* THIS IS MY FIRST DD AND I'M SOOOO HAPPY!

F.A.Q:
(updated 15/01/2012)

"WHERE CAN I GET SAI?"
[link] this is the official site, where you can get a free trial for one month, after that you must buy it..... yes, piracy DOES exist but i won't tell you where.

"CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT A TABLET?"
It's not easy, but yes, you can. The result might not be exactly the same but you can get a similar work. But you have to arrange the transparency and other features of each brush to achieve certain effects. How? Well, i don't know, i don't paint with my mouse for more than 3 years so i forgot how to do it.

"CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS?"
Yes, you can. Not everything, but at least the coloring technique.

"IS THERE SAI VERSION FOR MAC?"
No, but there are other good programs for MAC, you can try those.

"WHAT'S THE SUPR BUTTON?"
Sorry people, i don't own a laptop with the keyboard in english, so i think you have it as "delete"

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR WATERCOLOR BRUSH SETTINGS?"
[link]

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR REDJUICE BRUSH SETTINGS?"

"CAN YOU SHARE YOUR CHARCOAL BRUSH SETTINGS?"

The texture and the brush tip can be found at the download section of this description.

"WHITE LAYER AND DARK LAYER... I JUST DON'T GET IT"
[link] check this small pic to understand how to arrange them. Why do i use them? As you see, i paint and my color doesn't respect the lineart at first, so i erase later... to find every part that i wanna erase, instead looking at a white background i use the dark layer. Also, if the white layer is well done enough, i can select it, invert it and erase the parts that i don't need without using the eraser -which takes more time-
=A= well... as it's kinda hard to explain and stuff... I've made another pic to explain it as a step by step... Some of you might notice the good side of using both... if you don't it's fine... that step is optional anyway. [link]

Anyway a lot of people asks me this even if the answer is big, with examples and clear, so i won't reply to that question again.

"HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN BRUSH"

Feel like the hardest part for me is actually making CLEAN line art... All my lines, especially curved ones are never smooth, there's kinks in it everywhere. I can't seem to go over a line precisely so it ends up being like 5 lines next to the original line... Argh. I've been trying to use this tablet for months and I STILL can't get my line art to be smooth... I don't think I'll ever get my digital art to be as good as my paper and pencil art...

Ranting aside, the coloring part is really helpful. Do you always use that default pen size? x.01 of size 0.5?

I am looking for tutorials to improve my drawing for nearly 3 weeks @_@ This is the very first I see that I actually comment on! You add real detail and you treat your viewers as if they know absolutely nothing! Which is the case! Most layers consider people know the basics on SAI or PS!!

But your lineart almost disappears at the ending pictures! How?

I have a few questions. When inking, what size pen did you use? And what type of pen did you use? (Noise, spread fuzystatic or what? ) *I'm sorry you have to answer these I'm a dummy XP

Hendais In reply to ??? [2013-02-08 16:47:28 +0000 UTC]

I have a question.

When I use SAI, and I fill, say a shape, with a particular colour (colour A). When I change my brush colour (to colour B) and then start to draw over the previous colour (A) (having placed the cursor on the first shape) my colour (B) is the same, or a shade of the colour (A) I originally picked, and not the new colour (B) that I picked! What is the problem I am encountering? D:

Do I have a particular setting on causing this?

Many thanks.

Kairi-ou In reply to Hendais [2013-02-21 11:46:40 +0000 UTC]

Think of the brush tool as a real life brush in real life. Once you have a new colour on a brush and you touch the brush on a diff colour, it'll pick up the colour you've touched and blend the two colours together. If you want the new colour to stay the new colour, colour it on another layer on top of the first colour or paint a little outside the first colour so the second colour is visible.

I hope that helps! <3 I'm sorry I'm so confusing ==ll

i don't get what you got...
all i can say is that i have one layer for the sketch, many layers for coloring, and one lineart layer on top

PinkieKing In reply to popolis [2013-01-06 12:16:33 +0000 UTC]

You aren't an idiot at all, silly! Hush.
Preserve opacity should be to the very left of the screen, just above the layer window. It's the top one of those three check boxes.
And just above that you'll see the word "Mode" with a drop-down menu to the right that says "Normal".

Hope this helps! ^-^

I can't find the additive choice from the dropdown menu either. :S

PinkieKing In reply to Toxo [2013-01-06 21:42:54 +0000 UTC]

I just checked and didn't see it either. I wonder why! I'd go for either Overlay or Luminosity instead.

popolis In reply to PinkieKing [2013-01-06 14:16:29 +0000 UTC]

it really helped with preserved opacity thingie, thank you SO MUCH~~~
though I still can't find additive in that mode at all only words there are: multiply, screen, overlay, luminosity, shade, lumi&shade, binary color... maybe I'm not that good at english if word 'additive' is changed to different word...

PinkieKing In reply to popolis [2013-01-06 21:42:05 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome
I just looked at the dropdown menu and you're right! Additive isn't there. I wonder what's up with that. But I'd suggest using either Overlay or Luminosity instead.
