Archaeopteryx fighting over mating rights in the spring. There is also a cryptoclidid plesiosaur in the background, as well as some diving Rhamphorhynchus. I decided to paint the Archaeopteryx all black because a lot of birds are dull and there are too many over the top dinosaur reconstructions. Iridescence and UV light patterning on the tails and primary feathers of modern birds (avian dinosaurs) are used as cryptic sexual displays, so why not in non-avian dinosaurs too?!
