That's how I did my wayfinders from KH: BBS. Please read following notices:1. This is not the best and definitely not the easiest way to do these accessories.
2. Please obey all the safety measures.
3. Feel free to ask any questions.

I went trough your comments and I think I didn't missed but if so I'm sorry
I was wondering if you just painted the epoxy with the glass tint normally or is there a specific technique to do it?
sorry to bother you and thank you very much

or can that be? @A@

I'm not sure if you can make the petals thin enough to use wires for frames ^_^'. It would probably be better to use some kind of thin sheet plastic for that.

Can we use something else for the mold instead of epoxy? If not where can we buy it? Can we get it at Michaels? The outline of the wayfinder and the crest in the middle are both made out of clay- so we bake that and glue it onto the glass right?

Dzheik In reply to ninjaneko93 [2011-06-21 00:13:16 +0000 UTC]
Sorry, I'm from Russia and I don't know what "Michaels" is xD. In my city plasticine can be found in any kids craft store and is much more common than the polymer clay, so I didn't think it would be hard to find. You can use soft clay or some kind of paraffin or wax(which is more troublesome though).
Yep, they are both made of clay, we bake the outline together with the epoxy pieces(no need to separate them).
I hope this will help

so would any glass paint work?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dzheik In reply to ninjaneko93 [2011-06-21 01:09:55 +0000 UTC]
For painting the epoxy pieces? Well, as far as I know there are at least two types of glass paint: some of them need baking(they are marked as "porcelain") and are more lusterless, and the others don't need anything and are brighter, glossier and more transparent. I think that the second ones are more suitable in this case.

I bought the epoxy o.O how long did it take for it to dry? And did you have to warm it up? Also what did you use to measure it?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dzheik In reply to ninjaneko93 [2011-06-21 22:24:25 +0000 UTC]
There are plenty of the epoxy types. Some need only a minute and the others become solid in ~8 hours. Please read the instruction on the bottle or whatever you have there. Erm, what for?) The resin and the hardening agent usually comes in bottles with markings for easier measurement or in syringes. Which one do you have?)

hey aaaawesome tutorial i really want to give this a try! i have a few questions though;
when painting with the glass paint - what do you mean by "dont forget about the gradient?"
also, are the finished peices quite fragile? can they break easily?
thanks xxx
π: 0 β©: 1
Dzheik In reply to caro666 [2011-04-01 21:25:46 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for the kind words!
>gradient
I just wanted to remind that the pieces are not plain blue or yellow, but change colour from light blue to dark blue(lol) or from yellow to orange
>fragility
They are quite firm: they won't break if you drop them, but they can be broken by bending.

Quick question: How exactly do you bake it? What temperature, how long, etc, ect...
(I'm about to make these soon and I must know every detail or my mom will start spazing out and saying "you have no idea what you're doing!!!!" -__-)

Dzheik In reply to khoathkeeper13 [2011-03-07 01:29:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, the clay should have an instruction with it, 'cause the conditions differ.I use Cernit clay and bake it for ~20 minutes at ~120Β°C

Ok thanks(never made anything with clay before except in art class which they aren't crazy enough to let a bunch of kids/teens run around like crazy with excess to something as hot as a kiln or oven xD)

Wow, I am impressed... I might just skip the materials and do it the lame 7th grade way.
Thin metal wire, colored plastic, some string and clay. xD

i dont know if i missed this while reading.. but i was just wondering, How exactly do you get the glass out of the mold once its done?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dzheik In reply to FennecRiku [2011-01-19 20:12:07 +0000 UTC]
There is no problem with that: the plasticine is very flexible and the oil prevents the epoxy from being glued to it. So, I just hook them on from one side and they pop out themselves.

Are there any paint i can use instead of glass paint?also I cant find any plasticine, what else can work instead of that?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dzheik In reply to AnimeFreak016 [2010-12-31 14:35:32 +0000 UTC]
You can use any transparent paint. I've never seen any transparent paint except glass paint though.
Wax, paraffin, clay, etc. Any material that is soft enough to imprint the pieces and that is not very porous/spongy.
