XD I still do that occasionally now and I've made five of them >_< I've adjusted the way I make them a little since my tutorial. You can try cooking the stem a little first to give you a firmer non-wiggly base XD and also I now just cut a smooth curve rather than a wavy line ^^ I should really make an up to date version >_<

When your done I'd love to see it and add a link to the A.C. ^^

OKami-hu [2011-02-13 15:57:29 +0000 UTC]

Actually, polymer clay does come in silver, so- for beginners, I think it'd be easier to just use that instead of painting. Careful with the varnish though, because some of them turn baked clay into a sticky mess after two months. Use acrylic varnish.

EMort In reply to OKami-hu [2011-02-13 16:23:54 +0000 UTC]

I find that a lot of the time the silver isn't exactly brilliant and you tend to get dust particles in it. Thats why I recommend using white fimo and painting it with acryilc. That way you get a good finish and it looks fairly professional.

DizzieDee [2011-02-12 11:13:32 +0000 UTC]

You made yours so differently o.O; I'm guessing that yours is solider than mine though, I have to be careful not to break mine D:
May have another attempt your way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EMort In reply to DizzieDee [2011-02-12 12:38:22 +0000 UTC]

But yours looks closer to the original. I wonder if I used your method on Fimo whether it would work. How do you get it to spiral?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DizzieDee In reply to EMort [2011-02-13 23:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Hand sculpted it @_@ your way looks a lot easier though and less frustrating

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EMort In reply to DizzieDee [2011-02-14 18:11:56 +0000 UTC]

hehe, you'd think, takes a bit of practice though. I'm thinking the hand sculpt probably wouldn't work with fimo, you'de end up with too many folds

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DizzieDee In reply to EMort [2011-02-14 18:39:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to try it with fimo at some point it'll probably fail!

This is going to be so helpful! Thank you very much I never thought of part-cooking the sphere to make taking out the inside easier, that's a great tip.

I do have a question about step 7 though - how do you fit the bead in as well as the pin? I can't really make sense of it, because wouldn't the pin leave a really tiny hole?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EMort In reply to randomlyyellstuff [2011-02-12 12:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Heapins look like this [link] I use them to suspend the bead in the center...I knew I shouldn't have forgotten assembly >_< You thread it through the hole which you made before cooking, place the bead on and then thread it out through the second. It's tricky but doable. I'll try to update the tutorial soon but I have a few essays to get in first

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

randomlyyellstuff In reply to EMort [2011-02-12 18:17:13 +0000 UTC]

Ohh I just figured it out xD You put the bead in the hollow, then thread the pin through it - I get it now! I was a bit out of it this morning so I couldn't figure out how you got the bead inside it at all oops

I know the feeling about those essays *sighs*

EMort In reply to randomlyyellstuff [2011-02-13 19:05:52 +0000 UTC]

Lol don't worry I read most of my messages just after I wake up at 6.30am. They're sought of my morning wake up method, but usually I fall asleep whilst the pages are loading >_<

and yes essays...something that I should be doing right about now...one of them's got to be in tomo

NekoTaka [2011-02-12 00:19:11 +0000 UTC]

You also missed the baking temp, but I'm going to assume that comes with the Fimo ^_^

yeah, tis on the front of the packet ^^ though usually in degrees C you can find conversion charts on the net.
