Description

Things were out of control. Literally.

Everything was engulfed in auburn flame - something Abraham only saw inside the house in an isolated spot during the worst of weather. This time, it was everywhere. It was threatening the livestock. Abraham couldn’t let this happen.

Despite his name being called by at least three separate voices - even Aurelio’s - Abraham took off towards the flames to try and herd the livestock to safety. He couldn’t let his livelihood get engulfed by the heat. He would die if he had to.

But alas, his name - and shortened nickname, continued to get called behind him. Abraham herded the sheep to safety, but something bit at his ankles. Abraham turned around and growled, but stopped. Aurelio.

“Abe! We have no time!” He said.

“I am NOT leaving them!” Abraham shouted, “The human will be angry if we do!”

“The human doesn’t care anymore! He’s calling you, he wants you safe!” Aurelio said.

“I can’t leave the livestock to just die.” Abraham said, turning around to continue the herding, barking frantically at the sheep. Aurelio bit his ankle again, trying to herd him back to their human.

“Aurelio!” Abraham snarled “Stop it!”

“No! I’m not letting you kill yourself!”

That's what got Abraham to stop and think. Maybe the livestock could be okay… the human always brought more to the farm when they died. Abraham sighed shakily. But they always only died in small amounts from age or foxes or coyotes or just… disappearing one day.

“Come on, Abraham. We have to go.”

Abraham nodded, following Aurelio back to their human.

The fires spread to Abraham's property after engulfing parts of the neighbour's (King's) property. A barn where the sheep live burns in the flames and Abraham tries desperately to save what sheep he can, but is stopped by Aurelio who realizes that Abraham is going to get himself killed. Abraham reluctantly follows him to safety

Ultimately some sheep do perish, but not all of them thanks to Abe's efforts
