Description This is my illustration for 1st anniversary of Shadowrun 5th Edition and the cover of "Run Faster", a major sourcebook for the game. ©2014 InMediaRes DBA Catalyst Game Labs, LLC. I was given complete freedom fto do anything I wanted as long as i included at least one "unique" race from the game. I chose a Centaur, because they are under-represented in the game, and an Oni, because they are just wonderful characters. The conflict between the "Myth" of the magical horseman and the "Modern" of the Motorcycle rider is further complicated by the modern affectations of the Centaur and the traditional history of the Oni.

The title came from my husband's campaign where a large urban settlement of homeless formed their own territory in the DMZ underneath I-5 in os Angeles. He named the territory Underpassistan ("Underpass + i + stan", like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, etc.).

Underpassistan is fairly brilliant, give that man kudos. I really like the centaur, but aren't Shadowrun centaurs (By the book at least) horse headed?

Thank you.
There are are two kinds of Shadowrun centaurs. The standard Centaur is a metahuman variant in this book (which is an update of the Runner's Companion for 5th edition). The "Lesser" version of the centaur as a critter does have a beastial head. I've been playing for 20 years and really pleased to have done 9 covers for it to date.

Then I'll have to pickup that book because when I played 2e back in the day none of us bothered with the splatbooks and so we never got the metahuman centaur.

I strongly suspect this is a 5e addition, frankly speaking. At least all the splats I remember, including 4e's Running Wild and Runner's Companion mentioned sapient horse-headed centaurs.
