The Squigglefir is an early offshoot related to the grand firs, but which remained lowland, spreading across central Nueva Ibiza. These conifers grow tall and twisted, giving them their name. They are mostly bare aside from the crown at the top which is equipped with sharp prickly needles, very pale in colour. Being located in the mediterannean scrubs and semi-deserts, germination is via wildfire. Their trunks are fireproofed and their leaves positioned up high so as not to get burned by the blaze below. Growing in harsher conditions, the squigglefir's root system is extensive to capture as much of the limited moisture as possible, meaning it is difficult for other plants to establish themselves within squigglefir groves. Regardless, they create shade for traveling animals and they themselves are sun-loving (although saplings do need semi-shade in which to grow most effectively.)
