Description
This is a creature known as a "Flying Polyp", created for my illustrated Lovecraft bestiary. [The flying polyps were a] horrible elder race of half polypous, utterly alien entities... They were only partly material and had the power of aerial motion, despite the absence of wings... [They exhibited] a monstrous plasticity and ... temporary lapses of visibility... [S]ingular whistling noises and colossal footprints made up of five circular toe marks seemed also to be associated with them.—H. P. Lovecraft, "The Shadow Out of Time"

Excellent work. I like the Polyps especially, since there are no two artists who would depict them the same way. Lack of description in their case really works for artists.

One of my favorite artistic images of these gruesome creatures. The influence of H.R. Giger is clear.

I support your idea of creating a Lovecraft bestiary!

Great work, mate! You def pulled off the gruesome Lovecraftian look here! I can see that you've spent quite a deal more time on this than some of your other stuff, and it turned out to make some very nice textures

Thanks, I appreciate that! I figured that this creature was so alien and amorphous that the only way to get it to look creepy instead of just weird was to really make the textures look organic and ghoulish, so I took a cue from the master of creepy textures (H.R. Giger) and used the airbrush (or in this case the airbrush tool) all over the surface of the thing.

Thanks! I always try to approach things from a new perspective if possible, especially when I'm not satisfied by any of the old perspectives.

yes there are a great many mythos entities for which this is the case.

Thanks, the details were the only way to make this thing look very interesting I thought. The dark background is appropriate I felt for a creature which lives in underground caves.
