Description
NOTE :: MORE QUESTION UPDATEQ : Where can I get copic markers? Do you have any recommended place?
A : There are several places selling Copic markers. You may check out you local art stores. Or as *SheCow recommendation, go browsing on Ebay. Ebay has more choices and probably sometimes has a very surprised deal! Check it out!
NEWS :: As mentions, "you can get copics from dickblick.com at a discount whereas buying them else where. (discount is at most 40% of the actual cost of copics)
Q : Copic markers are still expensive, Any brand do you recommend with a lower price?
A : Even though Copic markers are the best one for me, I admit that the price is still high. For some of you who want to use other brands, I recommend Neopiko from DELETER. These markers work pretty well and easy to blend like Copic markers (not 100% but yeah, still good enough to use!). And of course they come out with good price. But just keep in mind that Neopiko might hard to find on stores compare with Copic. So if you're interested, check 'em online. Yo!
For Prisma and Tristars markers...I've never used them so I can't tell about how good or tips...sorry about that TAT
=================
YAY! as I promised before *got shot*...hope it will be helpful for you guys. Any question for copic markers are welcome (umm...if I can answer as well TwT)..lol

I use both Copic and Prisma and Prisma blends fine enouph and has brighter colors than copic. The best part is is $4 compaired to the $7 copic. BUT I love to use copic more and I have a smaller color range at the moment with Prisma.

Oooh, I like your reason for applying the darks before the base. I'll have to try this out along with those waterproof micron pigmas, because my ink runs with copics. @_@

Thank you for the tutorial. I have always wondered how people get light and shadow blend together smoothly. Just like in you tutorial picture, which is truly beautiful. I really have to try adding shadows first and then the base color. *nodnod*
I have a question, though: Just how do you use blender? Sounds silly but I honestly have no idea. Do you just add the color after using blender and it kind of spreads? I don't make much sense do I...?
I would be so happy if you could try to explain the mystery of blender to me.

Whoa, that's really expensive.
Forunately they are around 4 euros here in Finland. And now I live in a city where they are actually sold. I haven't found them anywhere else in a whole country. If you don't count cons, that is.

I'm just starting on Copics so this tut helps alot!
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of colors, just a basic 12 so I have been using them with my Prisma pens too. They dont blend as well as Copics but its all I have and the Prisma Blender really makes the Copics more vibrant.
I was curious though, is there some sort of colorless blending pen for Copics too?
And I noticed your markers look a lot different than mine, mine seem more narrow and the circumference is round rather than yours that look slightly squared off. Mine's caps are fully colored as well, is that just because yours are bought as singles and mine were in a box? Or maybe one is an old style of pen and one is the new style? I ask so if I decide to buy more I don't accidentally get the wrong ones

IT isnt really too thin.. But printer paper will SUCK the ink right outta your pen, annnnnd it will bleed VERY easily through printer paper.
I use actual copic paper. Its a little pricier.. But your pens last 3x longer, and you can you colour over colour and keep colouring in one spot.. The paper takes a LOT of ink before it bleeds through. (And then it doesnt bleed very much.)
my friend used sharpie on it colouring over and over and over, and FINALLY it bled a little bit through the copic paper. <3

Okay, this is a dumb question (bear with me lol), but what exactly is a Copic marker? Is it a watercolor marker or is this a just a brand name? Sorry, lately I have decided I want to brush up on my traditional skills, so I would like to use some nice color pencils and markers (that aren't crayola LOL).

I have a question: doesn't the ink runs? Like when I cover the shadows with my base colours the ink spreads and went out of my outlines, like what spilt water will do to not-waterproof ink. I'm not sure if my question makes sense

What kind of ink and paper did you use? Was the marker you used water and marker-proof?

jyongyi In reply to Ecthelian [2011-07-30 02:04:43 +0000 UTC]
Well I used Neopiko, which from what I've researched on is similar to copics? As for paper I used ordinary art paper, not water colour ones. But it's durable as it held several coatings without any indication of tearing. Oh so it's the paper that causes the ink to run?

Ecthelian In reply to jyongyi [2011-07-30 13:23:13 +0000 UTC]
In that case, I assume it might be the paper you used? Some paper (that I've ever used in the past) needs to leave for awhile after you ink on it -- to make sure that the paper fully absorbs the ink into the paper itself. Try to leave it for a little longer and see if it might work? If not, probably you need to change the paper...that's all I can suggest about ;;____;;

I only recently started getting an interest in copics and I have to say this is much harder then it appears to be!
I thought you start with like a light pale base color and work your way up?
I wanted to get the same result from copics as you would from say.....paint Sai or any paint program but work with my hands. Oh how embarassing now im here telling you my life with copics! lol! OK so my point question was, if I only want to try copics out what would only be the necissary colors for doing the skin and eyes, And for doing the shading on the clothes, is there a different grade of copic I should stick to? Like.......um....Idk if this makes any sense! lol! ok so like there different grades of copics...is there like a certain number of grade I should keep between the grades I use? ummmmm sorry im probably confusing you! ><"

Awesome tutorial, BTW I've heard there's a type of marker called "ALPHA marker" or something like that.
They're like 1/4 of the Copic marker price but they're supposed to be as good.

So, for the water, you colored in the blue with dark colors, then the base colors, as you did before. THEN you put the colorless blender?
Was the water a solid color or were there spaces left in between for the white-ish part?

I have a question...! (I know you're busy, so if someone else sees this and knows, they can answer too...)
My markers always leave streaks... how do you get yours to look so smooth? User a colorless blender helps, but I don't want to use it all up too quickly.

Copic markers are really great!
I also have another suggestion for those searching for other brands, I have also used Touch markers (ShinHan Art International Inc. as written on the marker xD) they are very similar and work pretty well. Obviously it all comes down to personal preferences, but if I could I'd buy only copics. I also use smooth Bristol paper by Stratdmore and it's like cardstock.
I'll stop rambling now, thanks for sharing this tutorial! That water looks really great and is worth the efforts. ^^
