Description I know this has been done many times before, but I wanted to practice drawing eyes, and explaining how I do stuff to others always makes me really analyse what I do, which helps.

I hope you find this useful, and that it's not too full of language mistakes.. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear, or if you have any other questions! And I wouldn't mind a link back here so more people can see it if it inspires you or helps you with a painting.

This is an amazingly helpful tutorial.Β  It freaks me out looking at the finished image, as the eye color is the exact same color as mine!

I suck at eyelashes...no matter how many times I try I always end up turning the eye into a spiderΒ Β Β  but anyways, this is one of the best eye tutorials I've seen around here. Thank you!

Edana In reply to MisaSami [2015-01-11 18:22:53 +0000 UTC]

Best tip I can give you is to try to forget what you think eyelashes are and look like, and try to copy line by line some reference pictures.Β
Among other things commercials seem to have distorted our image of lashes.
I am very happy to hear that you liked my tutorial! Let me know if you do something with it.

I want to thank you so much for this tutorial. It was very easy to follow and even though I didn't use photoshop, the result was still pretty good and LOOKS semi-real!
Here is my attempt gallicka.tumblr.com/post/98654… . I praise it so much on tumblr. XD

Great work! I especially like the colours and texture of the iris. For the next time, I would advice you to pay a little more attention to the placement of the pupil, from the front it is exactly in the middle of the iris. And to examine your own eye in the mirror to see how the flesh meets the white of the eye in the corners. But this is a very nice painting, I am not familiar with Clip Studio Paint, but you seem to have good control over it!Β

Hi,

Sorry to trouble you.

I am 38, an Assistant Professor in the field of Fashion Technology, working in India.

Right from chldhood I was interested in Oil Painting.
After seeing your digital art / paintings, I am fully mesmerized, and now I also would like to learn how to create drawings and paintings using computer and mobile Β software.

I have seen many digital paintings on Internet created by using programs like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, Corel Draw, Sketchbook Pro, etc.
I have done oil paintings of huge sizes like 1mx2m, 2mx3m, etc.

I am confused about which software should I learn.

I would like to know from yourgoodself which software provides best tools to create Realistic Paintings, that too with a Huge Canvas Size without compromising the quality. I want to take digital print of the painting at the end.

Thanking you with warm regards,

Vaibhav K Dhange

Hello Vaibhav,

Sorry for the late reply, I have not been here in a while.

I use Photoshop, but that is mainly because I got it more than ten years ago and love a program where I feel at home. I know that some people prefer Corel Painter because it has a more painterly feel to it, in the way the brushes work. Photoshop is great for the small details, and the brushes have gotten a lot better with the recent versions. You can do great things in all of the programs, but I think these two are best if you want a process and result that feels more like oil painting.

When it comes to using a huge canvas size, your hardware is just as important. I know at least photoshop starts to lag if I work with a very large resolution, but I am on a laptop with not too impressive qualifications.

Kind regards,
Elna
