VERY cool...I was wondering when someone would submit a pic of the ole Iron Horse! Did you by chance get a photo of the Virginian?

i have a couple of shots of it bathed in nice warm early morning light (winter), but i've never processed them ?
i post more on my flickr page than hear
i got a cool shot of st lukes and st malachy's church in med bow.
when i first moved to casper - the virginian was a hoopin' spot ! back in the day if you shimmied up the support pole in the bar and touched the ceiling they gave you a draw beer - with a big green olive in it - served in a mason jar.....oh ! yeah
i have a thing for churches (i'm not religious) rural schools (don't know how is missed the old school in rock river) and barns
oh ! and trains.....

hehehe wouldn't have guessed about the trains! The Virginian is a neat place. I like that they have kept the rooms pretty much how they were in its hayday. Would LOVE to see some great pics of it posted.Somewhere I have a couple of pics that I took before I started painting of the writing that was on the inside walls of the "school" I believe we found one dated in the 30's. WE passed some people gathering on the hill dropping into RR the day the steam engine came through. If I had know I would have stopped and got a pic of it huffing its way up the grade. darn....

that "s" curve off of lower pine ridge ?
when they come down hill they let off steam - when you see black smoke ? that's for show ! they throw sand in the firebox - which helps eliminate carbon build-up - i think ?
was it going east or heading back ?
she headed east on sept 8th - it was cool - cause it was unassisted - no diesel in there as a helper - made it look original
yeah when you see people "foamers" gathered along the tracks someting special is coming thru.
last year (april) when UP 844 went to oregon - i waited for it at that spot east of rock river - then after it passed - there was like 30-40 vehicles following along side it down the hwy towards med bow - they took up both lanes - if you were coming east you had to pull over ! it was crazy...i got caught up in the race and there's no slowing down - pisses the people off that are behind you - i was doing 80 MPH - that train was silent - everyone up in the cab had a smile on their face from ear to ear.
people had cameras mounted on their vehicles - it was better than the circus !
and that train doesn't huff it's way up a grade - that beast moves with the grace of a ballerina and the speed of a jet - it raced a helicopter and won ! - it's on youtube - i'm sure you can find it

WOW d*** I am really sorry I missed it! I will have to look it up. I believe it was coming up the grade the people had their camera's pointed towards rock river. John likes to watch the programs on the old engines that they have on the RFD channel sometimes. HE would have really enjoyed it as he remembers some of these old beasts. (He is quite a bit older than me) He tells stories of when they were kids...hopping the freights...to get from one city to another..hehehe

just go to UP steam.com
they have info on schedules and stats
it was fun a month ago when the challenger hooked up to the ringling and barnum and bailey circus train when it came from SLC - they hooked up at a place called Speer a stones throw from I-25 not far off of the terry ranch rd exit.
it pulled in - in the dark - about 6 am real silent....
after it hooked it - it pulled out about 7:30 am - that's the shot i have posted with the water tank (tower) in the background - you can see that tower from I-25
and i've done my days of freight train hoppin' back east....now i'm too old to try it - high on the scare factor !

Nice perspective with the rails, train and telephone poles converging off in the distance.

Eddie, you don't seem to stand still for very long. A week ago you were in Cheyenne and now you're out here.
