It's supposed to be an E9 on the outside, but its NOT an E9 on the inside. Β For easier maintenance in keeping it up and running and ready to go for office-car specials and/or runs to railroad shows, all three of UP's E-units now effectively have GP38-2 innards, with only one diesel engine, a roots-blown 16-645 and AR10 alternator as found in a GP38 and probably Dash 2 wiring and controls while keeping of course the E9 carbody and trucks. Β Setup like this, they are internally referred to as "E38-2's" now.

Do you think this would with other Dash-2 components in other cab-units?

As in putting Dash-2 components in other cab-units?Β Certainly.Β Norfolk Southern's own A-B-A set of F's they use for office-car executive trains have been similarly heavily modified and overhauled, at the former PRR/Conrail shops in Altoona, PA that are now one of NS's two backshops: F-unit carbody on the outside, GP38-2 innards on the inside, but I think NS went with turbocharged 16-645s for their heritage-fleet F-units so they would have more tractive effort for pulling longer office-car trains on the various steeper grades found on the vast Norfolk Southern network than the more gradual, straighter, and higher-speed tracks that much of UP and BNSF run on.

Its the depth of field that is really kicking in, shooting at f8 using 100 asa is really giving you the 'cream' of the lens, shows the true value of a good optics

E9, actually - although after they were rebuilt, they aren't even that from a mechanical standpoint.

Easy mistake to make. The E8 and E9, possibly the E7 were all built with the exact same nose as the entire F series.
