Description
Well, here it is, all done.Few things I want to state- Initially I was trying to go for a more TF Animated style, but I have indeed reverted back- but didn't really change the legs. I hadn't noticed he was having a more feminine figure then me til way into the coloring. However, it didn't bother me so much as to have to redo everything, so it stayed. Oh well- I know what to look for in the future.
** edit- also, been pointed out to me via some helpful peeps on th eforum that he is off-balanced- why did I not see this? I could have fixed it easily with the line art. His shoulder should have been slanted the other way.... oh well, one more thing I have to look out for!
Everything was done in illustrator except for th shadow. I just didn't want a flat white background but I am not really doing much of a bg.
Also, not sure how the shading looks. I am rather new to this style of vector- doing color and line art in Illustrator. Also, never really drawn anything that would have a metallic shading to it considering I just started drawing transformers in the past year. I know I can prolly do a lot more with illustrator- the problem is, I simply do not know how. See, for digital art, I am pretty much self-taught, and even when I did some comp classes, the versions of Illustrator where much much older ( heck, this was created with Illustrator CS6 and it is much different then what I was used to on the old comp- which was CS3.
I really am wanting to learn more about illustrator and such. If anyone has any tips or tutorials to help, I am all ears.
While I am happy with this drawing, And yes I do feel I got th emetalic feel for Drifts shading, I know it can be better. I like this better then my photoshop coloring, but I am really wanting to learn more about the program so when I am coloring in, I am not stuck with the limitations of what basics I know in illustrator.
Anyways, this is Drift, drawn like he is in the MTMTE comics.
He don't belong to me, I just drew him.
Hope you all enjoy!

I like the pose. Not very typical of big giant robots. He's kind of just chilling. : )

The pose seems a bit casual and there's just the right amount of shading and small highlights which makes parts of the transformer shine like metal. The shadow was a nice touch and I believe it was smart not to include a background as it would most likely take away from the drawing.

Love the design, but you may need a stronger pose to make your design badass. It's my opinion! Great job!

I know what you mean- the initial pose I had was much stronger- and I just had soooo many issues with it, so, went with a simpler one.Β To this day- I always remember that I had to dumb down the pose- but at least I drew it and learned from it.
action poses is what I need to work on- tho, I went with the sad warrior for this one.
thanks for your input!

its a male- just had issues with giving him feminine qualities- the one reference pose I had was from a slender guy, then I posed for it as well....Β oh well.Β my portrayal of drift isn't of a blarg- manly man,...lol

Haha I agree with the commenter below; definitely standing with a bit of sassy attitude, and it's awesome!
I really love how you made this guy shine with all the multiple layers of cell shading and highlights!! I really think that this looks like a professional image that belongs on the actual Transformers merch; you've done this so brilliantly! Love the shadow too!!

Β its.so Β awesome, i really love how you did this, but it looks a little bit too stiff like its one of those toys you get at a toy store, maybe try and loosen it a bit by drawing a human basic body Β Β then build up on the mechanical things
π: 0 β©: 1
edf In reply to Kirst3 [2013-10-26 12:18:46 +0000 UTC]
yeah, kinda did that with drawing human first with some aspects.Β That is one thing I tend to do- draw peeps a little stiff, and i see what you are saying here.Β I aint too bothered by it- however, it is something I need to work on as a whole.
thanks for the tip and honest feedback!Β I appreciate it!Β

sometimes you don't notice things are off until you color something happens to me a lot- it still looks really good though! the shadow is a very cool effect and his pose contrasts with his face but in an interesting way- it looks like he is thinking 'yeah? so what? I could kill you in 1 swing or something'
hehe well done! ^O^

I think your lineart and sense of color is really good but I think the pose is questionable, it seems a little too sweet almost.. I like that you included the shadow
π: 0 β©: 1
edf In reply to eev11 [2013-10-20 20:56:30 +0000 UTC]
thanks- not understanding what you mean by looking too sweet- meaning- perhaps a more aggressive pose?Β If that is it- I see what you mean, but was just going fore a reluctant fighter, with some sad emotions.
Β I realize he is off balanced- is that what you meant?
Β
I don't mean to bug- just want to know what you mean to know for future projects that's all.
Β
thanks!Β I love doing line art, which was always stronger then coloring, but i am feeling more confident with coloring.Β

I LOVE MECHS!!!! Just recently got finished watching Pacific Rim. I see you went more for the Anime Gundam mechs which are still awesome even though I see a transformer logo It looks great. Very clean and neat. I love the shadowing you applied too. Gives a 3 dimensional feel to the drawing.
