I live on the coast and our "Red Shouldered Hawks" are a much more yellow shade of brown, I wondered why they were named that, since they are not red, but this one shows why.

I have never heard of a Red Shouldered Hawk having a yellow-brownish color. Sometimes when the light hits them funny, their color looks a little odd. I haven't seen many other Red Shouldered Hawks besides the ones right by where I live though.

I live in California, so I would not be surprised if the species varied over that distance, I have a picture of some in my gallery here.
