Yeah. To be fair, I just had a term paper rough draft due, a lousy night's sleep, and a lot of homework - so your offer blew all that out of the water. Um - that being said, don't feel obligated to do anything (but if you do that would be pretty gol'darn excellent.)

Would you want it traditional or digital?

Whatever you're feeling.
I'm sure I'll love whatever you make. Thanks again.
And feel free to bug me for work if you want. I like making things for people (uh, within reason of course [dreading past drawing classes where he tried to draw a squirrel which turned into a potato. frowny face.])

Man alive! You do lovey-dovey so gosh darn well!
I kind of want to see what you could do for Marco and Marty, but I wouldn't want to impose. Maybe we could arrange an art trade some time. But all in all - so cute.

Yep. It gets complicated in the comic strip, but most assuredly.

Okay, I wasn't sure if they were actually gay or it was a running gag about male comic duos ala Ren & Stimpy

Oh I meant how Ren & Stimpy would appear to be a gay couple one minute and then be like interesting in the opposite sex and just friends the next.

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 02:22:19 +0000 UTC]
Ah, gotchya. Yeah... I was playing more off of the fact that serial monogamy (be it in a cartoon duo or what have you) predicates some kind of romantic relationship. So, I had them pretty much gay in my mind when I started the comic strip, but I may choose to complicate it. It's hard to say. I'm not that smart when it comes to plot-writing. :\
I like Ren and Stimpy a lot. It has been ages since I've heard the log song.

haha it's more thought then I've put into my characters, then again they don't appear in comic for even a fraction as regularly

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 03:02:31 +0000 UTC]
Well, comicking can be tedious. Heck, I wish I could be more patient with it and write better plots. But I think its important to slough through the writing just to get some experience under your belt. That's what I keep telling myself. :\
I can tell though that you put a lot of thought in your characters. :]

Slainmonkey In reply to BillyFore [2010-04-03 06:48:52 +0000 UTC]
Haha not as much as you'd think actually, I initially with a drawing or a one joke comic and then it develops from there in a natural way. So they grow bit by bit the more I use them

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 14:12:42 +0000 UTC]
That's a good way to do it. Marco is my main character now, but he started out as an extra in a comic book I was writing called Spoofatally in the 7th or 8th grade.

Ironiclly I'm currently doing a remake comic of a character I created a 10 years ago......I lost the comic but I remember it perfectly. However it's a character that has changed very little in the decade.

Some things are like that... For me, it's amazing if I can draw something the same way twice. I dabble with a lot of tools and consequently a lot of styles.

Slainmonkey In reply to BillyFore [2010-04-03 15:13:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh I draw tons different to then, I mean the character himself really hasn't changed a great deal in personality and design.

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 15:17:36 +0000 UTC]
Ah, Gotchya. I was thinking about how often I draw Marco and how he looks different depending on the tool I use to draw him. No, I think consistency is a great thing. But I guess your style inevitably changes - if subtly - as you keep drawing. Even Charlie Brown in Peanuts changed. Snoopy too.
But looking at your gallery, yes, you have A LOT of styles. I appreciate that you favor old-timey. I miss seeing people who appreciate the classics.

Well I kinda because a whore pandering to want people wanted me to draw in 2005......but I guess it's a bump in the artistic road in which there is no point in hiding. I think much of it came as I don't think I really found myself yet as an artist which I think I'm really only starting to now.

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 16:55:59 +0000 UTC]
Well, that's a blessing, anyhow. I am not sure when I discovered my voice or idiom, but when I did, my work started making a lot more sense. This is not to say that I've arrived as a cartoonist. I have barely gotten through the first chapter of my career. But I think I understand the direction I am going.
If you want some help furthering your style, I've found the "100 themes" challenge pretty helpful. Or you could even start a comic strip. :]

Well I wouldn't say I'm all the way there but I think on the right track. I think that my stuff is getting less generic and is getting a more distinctive look. Also I think abandoning illustrator was a smart move. I think my style is frankly too minimalist to really pull it off and ultimately the personal touch was lost in translation. I do like some of my stuff from 2007 but much of the time it look too mechanical and as such lost it's heart and soul. At the same time it's harder not using it because I have rather shaky hands.

BillyFore In reply to Slainmonkey [2010-04-03 17:52:50 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I was gonna say you already have a niche, it seems. You definitely have a nice style going. I wasn't criticizing. I was just offering up what works for me by way of a habit.
But yeah. Illustrator. I still don't even know how to use it for anything more than a basic live trace.
I basically do all my line-art by hand. Occasionally I will use a tablet to draw but mostly I use it to color.

Slainmonkey In reply to BillyFore [2010-04-03 18:16:10 +0000 UTC]
Oh I know, I just mean I personally think it has some developing to do but I'm satisfied with how it's coming along as I feel that my completely swapping styles has somewhat hindered my artistic growth, and in some ways I really haven't improved as much as a lot of people have over the 6 years I've been here.
Actually if you ever want help with Illustrator I'd be more thing willing I've been using it for almost half a decade now. As for for colouring I have a method that can allow you to digitally colour and keep the lines you've drawn by hand. I can teach you how to do that I really hold no secrets for such things, I mean it's not like I'm a magician or something.
