wow Patrick your portraits are just rocking
you have a wonderful array of great models.
You've caught Tony's direct gaze so vividly. Even though this isn't a huge pic, his eyes just jump out of the portrait. I don't know how much arranging you did of the surrounds, but the lamp and door/window behind suit the composition very well
well done

hi Karen, thanks for the kind words. It's very encouraging
Sorry for being so slow to reply. Classes and work are keeping me super busy. This photo was half-arranged/half-hapharzard. The lamp was intentional, but I didn't really pay attention to the open door.
Yes, his eyes have incredible magnetism. I was printing another one of his pictures for my class assignment and everybody was commenting on his eyes.

Nice photo, quality-wise, with a really nice tonal range. Im not really feeling the cluttered rest of the frame...maybe crop in a little more, to focus more on him...Im not sure. I guess Im just not understanding the relation to the background and context in this case...its like...lovely model, nice pose, nice looking guy, but what does the background have to do with the picture? Am I missing something?

I have a difference of opinion here. I actually think the background is pretty important in this picture...it generates a modd. A closer crop, I think, would've taken away and lost the "environment" element. Thanks for sharing your thoughts though. It's always nice to hear what others may say

Ok, I see where youre comming from with the environment, I guess I just missed it. Thanks for not taking it hard...its annoying when I speak my mind and people get all touchy about it. If thats what you wanted and what you were going for then who cares? Its just my lone opinion. So...you're welcome!

he looks a lot like cillian murphy. great shot, i love the b&w and his gaze is really intense. i also like the lamp in the background
nice touch.
*looks at it again*
i also really like the open door. for some reason it seems significant, even though i'm too preoccupied to figure out why
