Description
This painting, as with all my other artwork on deviantART, was done as an art assignment for college. The only requirements we had for this painting were to use watercolor paint and to create an illustration involving an egg. After a lot of thought and discarded ideas, I decided to go with this composition. I used my suitemate Steve Limongelli as reference for the figure, an egg that I broke open just right, and a beach scene I found a picture of online.9" x 12"
30 hours working on composition including reference shots and using photoshop (why it took so long I don't know), 30 hours painting it

cool concept! it's interesting how you used an adult rather than a baby or kid as a hatchling, but I guess animal hatchlings are relatively developed compared to human newborns.

Amazing the idea of a human hatching from a egg like that is great! I love the soft shading on the egg shell and you captured the expression of a human as if they had just been born. Awesome stuff keep up the amazing work!

i'm also very impressed that this painting is done with watercolors, it's really good ^^ i use to work with watercolors a lot (with the same technique, more or less, i'd say) and know how difficult it is to control the paint properly... yet i never get such realistic results ^^ so really - well done ^0^

I like it. This is more creative than things I've seen only for "college projects". I should know I've seen displayed work in the Sheridan Gallery and none are too impressive.

You see an enormous egg lying on the beach. You stare at it in amazement. When's it going to hatch, you wonder.
And suddenly - the egg shell begins to crack and...
"Huh, thank god, air, solid ground..." an exhausted man - he had just hatched out of an egg. Breathing air for the first time, feeling the sand between his fingers. A birth of a man.
You shrug and walk on chewing a liquorice bar. Your scaly skin tingles. "Now that's really bizarre", you speak to yourself, dragging your long tail behind you.
