Description -June 2019-

I spend too much time drawing tubes with wings, so humans continue to be a test of my skills.

This is Captain Alba Fowler. I couldn't manage a super consistent style, but I enjoyed practicing multiple expressions and perspectives.

Note: Yes, those are scars. She and Anatole ( www.deviantart.com/eightyator/…) both have them. It's not uncommon to see these marks on people who work with fortunians. Although, Alba and Anatole have an unusually high quantity due to an in-flight accident.

These look really good! Humans are haaaard to draw!

It's good to have a bit of diversity from just planes in your works too, especially as Alba and co. are so central in your stories.

Thanks! Alba is -very- central to the story. In my very earliest draft, she wasn't supposed to do anything passed the first two chapters, but she had other plans, and now she's the protagonist. Oops.

Captain Fowler is looking like she could use a vacation; well done

She is going through quite a lot... Spontaneous sentient airplanes, post traumatic stress, and bodily injury do tend to cause strain. But, a character at their lowest moment has phenomenal potential for storytelling. She and Denver are my favorite OCs right now.

Does she have scars or tattoos on her neck?

They're scars- Neck tattoos would be terribly unprofessional for an airline pilot. They're actually less noticable in fully colored and shaded drawings because the scars are only slightly discolored from the rest of her skin, but the texture is different. When I do a more sketchy drawing like this, I may or may not include them based on the aesthetic/mood of the artwork.

I have another character with similar injuries. He was the copilot on the same flight when Alba was wounded. These scars are the result of an overexposure to the energy which animated their fortunian aircraft.

Fortunians get their flexibility from an energy which alters the relationship between their molecules - (In oversimplified terms). Human flesh, however, does not react kindly to being rapidly dissasembled and put back together. There's no long term pain, but the marks are permanent.

So basically anyone who was in a plane that day got "marked up"?

Yep, although the pilots had the worst of it. Most passengers walked away with most of the scars on their backs/ back of the neck/ back of the thigh - Anything in contact with the seat. Clothing also offered a slim layer of protection, reducing the potential extent of the injuries. However, the pilots were clutching the flight controls for dear life with bare hands, so they really got zapped - from the fingers up the arm, down the chest, and up the neck.
