Description SORRY GUYS, THIS SCRIPT NEEDS TO BE UPDATED TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH v7 BEFORE YOU CAN USE IT. I'LL GET TO IT AT SOME POINT.

Deviation Notes is a userscript that lets you annotate particular sections of your deviations, using a technique known from other sites, called photo notes. Deviation Notes is where photo notes meet ART!

What Deviation Notes does:
Allows the author of deviations to add notes on their deviations.
Includes an edit mode that makes it easy to add, delete, move, resize and change the content of notes.
Allows only editing by the original author, as the note data is saved as a code inside the Artist's Comments for the particular deviation.
Allows standard dA formatting such as userlinks, emotes and icons inside the notes! Heck yes!

When photo notes meet art, it means that they can be used in a lot of fantastic ways! I was mainly inspired by the need to identify people in devMeet photos from the current dA World Tour , so it can simply be used for identification. But it can also be used as a means of adding explanations and "artistic commentary" to various parts of a piece, and additional information! I can't wait to see in what fancy way you creative people will use it.

Click here to install Deviation Notes!
Requires Mozilla Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension.

Please note: It is required that you have this script installed to see notes on people's deviations. (If you add notes to your deviation, you may optionally want to link to this script in the description so that other people may install it and see your notes!)

Enjoy!

This script is dual-licensed; either CC-BY (above) or the MIT License applies.

Oh, and if you want to try out the script after you've installed it, check the notes on this deviation!

Edit June 12th: The script is now updated so that it does no longer impede the collection dragging and dropping on deviations that do not have notes.

This is an unofficial script that's been broken for a while. I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Ideally, everyone should be able to use it.

Been using the script and it worked great, now all of a sudden it's not ... adding the right portion to the artist comments and they are showing up... I'm not sure what went wrong, just wondering if there is some update compatibility issues with newer FF?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

electricnet In reply to TheRaptor-Wolfy [2009-11-08 14:53:50 +0000 UTC]

How do you mean? Do you have an example or screenshot of what is going wrong?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheRaptor-Wolfy In reply to electricnet [2009-11-09 04:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah sure, here, I just changed some [edited] my artist comments and instead of them going back to normal, ... Here's the deviation that had notes and it worked great! Now at the bottom is the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to look over this. I try to figure it out by myself for the most part, but sometimes I just can't seem to get it to work. Hoping it's easy.

electricnet In reply to TheRaptor-Wolfy [2009-11-11 17:32:03 +0000 UTC]

That bug is related to dA having an oddity when it comes to parsing HTML tags that are too long (e.g. a very long acronym tag), illustrated here . It's one of my worst fears because it just refuses to go away, even though I reported it to dA when it first showed its ugly face several months back.

After hearing from you, I just reported it again trying to figure out what the status currently is, and it's now been passed on to their IT department. Let's cross fingers it's being fixed this time!

Otherwise, I might have to store the notes off-site instead of in the description.

TheRaptor-Wolfy In reply to electricnet [2009-11-11 17:36:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see. *nods* That makes perfect sense. Well shoot! I will certainly keep my fingers crossed, bugs like that are a pain, but should be fixed for sure! I'll keep my fingers crossed too for ya, I'd like to use this extension still!

I think the new deviation page layout might have killed the deviation notes. When I try to add my acronym it adds a \ to cancel out the title=""

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

electricnet In reply to zachriel [2009-09-25 15:39:18 +0000 UTC]

That's related to a dA bug introduced to dA recently [link]

It just adds backslash to the already failing thing. It isn't the backslash in itself.

Katy-L-Wood [2009-07-30 05:40:05 +0000 UTC]

It would be cool if you had the ability hide the squares while looking at a deviation, then unhide them when you want to read the comments.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

electricnet In reply to Katy-L-Wood [2009-07-30 07:10:40 +0000 UTC]

Just move the mouse outside the deviation and the squares automatically get hidden!

Regrettably, it seems that the new dA feature of placing thumbs into deviation comments seems to interfere with this script.
