I always disliked these commercials, but when I saw the one with Santa handing the dude a gift for his girl that just tore it for me.

I really hate jewelery commercials. They seem to imply that your only key to happiness is either being a chick and getting a diamond, or being a guy and giving your chick a diamond.

We analyzed highly controversial ads a while ago. I think the one I remember best was a textless magazine jewelery ad divided into two scenes: the first had a man extending a closed ring box in front of a woman, whose legs were crossed. The second had the box open, and the women's legs uncrossed.

Agreed. I honestly resent the implications they try to feed us. I'm a chick, and I wear a heavy-duty man-watch and a simple silver ring daily. The only other jewelry I wear is a necklace every once in a while. So if a guy thinks I'd be interested in something sparkly, he obviously doesn't know me AT ALL.
That may be a huge reason I detest the commercials so much (besides, y'know, the extreme repetition): they're trying to sell something to me based on my femininity but it is so off the mark it's not funny. Although you definitely made it so! ; )

Absolutely. I like sparkly things, I won't lie, and I like interesting necklaces and earrings, but give me a break! Making a diamond into not only a symbol for eternal love but THE ONLY RIGHT WAY TO PROVE THAT YOU LOVE SOMEONE is simply dumb. I think most people get it, but diamond companies are unscrupulous anyway.

Well you're not missing much. It basically consists of naked men and women running around wild in a forest or a beach. The music and the camera actions are super dramatic and then it'll show a bottle of perfume or cologne. At the end I always question what I just witnessed . . .
