Description
Erik and his living bride.Veil or no veil, that's the question! Or; veil, but not that veil 'cause it looks darn weird? What say you?
(I kinda like the veil myself, but that might be my pathological love for sparklies and swoooshy-things getting the better of my artistic judgement. And then again, I seem to prefer the general layout without the veil. And my brain will implode from having to make such serious desicions on it's own.)
Oh, and this is not at all finished, so please be cruel and terrible (yet constructive) if you comment!
(I hate posting things like this, since I risk getting no replies whatsoever and feeling like a total idiot, but I'm stuck and lazy)

No VEIL! Also, are you going to colour it? I think you should colour it. But leave the sketch lines because it would be prettyyyyyy

I like the veil better. I do agree with some people that it should be altered to either be single-layered or less bulky at the top. Great work so far though!!

Beautiful work so far!
I think that the composition works better without the veil; the lines of the veil seem to drag the eye down to the bottom left corner with no way to be pulled back into the picture. However, if you zoomed out a bit so that the picture is centered and no part of the veil is cut off, I think it would work fine.

I like the veil, but I think it would look better with a bit of modification at the top... maybe just a single layer all the way.

It's not weird; it's attention-grabbing. Β The lightness of the layers catches our eyes and pulls them from the faces (the desired focus) to the left. Β Giving that section of the veil a thinner, less busy layer -- creating less of a bright spot -- would stop that detraction.
My thought, anyway. Β

I think the one with the veil has more emphasis on her: her dress, her wedding. Without the veil, you focus much more on him. That's probably because the majority of contrast is all in the faces in the second one. It looks like a spotlight is coming down on them, actually.Β In the first one, the white veil is super bright and detailed and there's nothing to balance it in the left side of the piece. I say if you want to keep the veil, tone down the contrast, or place something equally light or dark (like a detailed chair or spiderwebs or something) in the left hand side.

Thanks a bunch! Yes, the composition is a little off balance with the veil. Right now, I'm thinking of dropping the veil altoghether, since the focus should be on the characters and their emotions - not on the costume(s)... Thanks again!

Well, the veil puts the scene in a better context. Christine kisses Erik because she's agreeing to be his bride etc.
For that sake, and since it's pretty and swooshy, I like it.
On the other side, without the veil adds more contrast to the piece as a whole... so maybe adjust the veil for more contrast and you'll reach a good middle ground?

Thanks! Yeah, If I keep the veil I'll definitely need to change the lighting and contrast. The compositions is not balanced at all like this... Thanks again!

you could also choose a less ostentatious veil design. Something more simple near her head...

I like the veil, and actually I prefer it with the veil, makes her looks more like a bride, the transparency on her back looks gorgeousΒ too, but maybe you could change the upper part of it, the way it is attached to her hair...

I think the veil adds to the "bride" part of it. Maybe use a different kind of veil... Something a little less busy, but still present. Maybe much sheerer, too? I like the concept, though!

The one with the veil certainly draws your attention more and if you're going with the theme of Erik and his living bride, I would pick that one. I do like the one without the veil too, but I think the other one ties the piece together.

Without veil is my opinion. The veil, though pretty, gives the impression that the picture is overloaded somehow.

I really like the texture of her hair but I think that the veil makes it a lot clearer that she is a bride. Without it, she looks like she's just wearing a really pretty white dress. So I think it depends on how much you want her to look like a bride. If that's the main point of the picture, then go for the one with the veil. If it doesn't really matter, then go with the other because her hair is very pretty.

With the veil, it gives the sense of her being his bride. Without, it's an innocent girl loving the dead man. I think both are good. I'm leaning towards the non-veil one. It seems less busy, in my opinion.

I'm new to this website (joined a few seconds ago... literally) but I think the one without the veil is better. I have to say, I looked at both images and the noe with the veil caught my attention before the other one, but I feel it takes too much attention away from the man.Β I was only looking at her dress on the first image. The second one, however, allows us to look at both characters equally.Β Also, without the veil, it allows us to see the details of her hair much better (looks gorgeous by the way).Β
That's what I think, I hope this helps you and if not, I'm sorry! ;_;
