Description
Erik and his living bride.Veil or no veil, that's the question! Or; veil, but not that veil 'cause it looks darn weird? What say you?
(I kinda like the veil myself, but that might be my pathological love for sparklies and swoooshy-things getting the better of my artistic judgement. And then again, I seem to prefer the general layout without the veil. And my brain will implode from having to make such serious desicions on it's own.)
Oh, and this is not at all finished, so please be cruel and terrible (yet constructive) if you comment!
(I hate posting things like this, since I risk getting no replies whatsoever and feeling like a total idiot, but I'm stuck and lazy)

The veil is a nice touch, but as others have said as well, it's too distracting, and it draws attention to itself rather than the more primary and important components. Β

Stunning work! I prefer it without the veil, but I'm so caught up in poor Erik's expression that I don't care much either way. <3

I personally prefer the veil. I don't know why, but it just completes the piece (in my opinion). I think that you should do whatever you like, though, as you're the artist and you have a special artistic license.Β
I really like this piece! I love this part in the book and I love to see it on paper. You've done it magnificently. I love the way you've portrayed it in black and white... It provides that sullen, dark, morose part of this scene. I just... I love this.Β Β

Oh, and to answer your question, I personally like her with the veil. To me, it makes the picture seem more antique.

Wow, this is getting harder by the minute. The "votes" are split in three between no-veil, veil, and veil-but-not-that-veil!
I'm going towards veil-but not-that-veil...

No veil; the lack of veil allows the darkness to frame the two characters and adds for more focus, in my opinion.

Β Answering your question:
I guess it's better without the veil. Because the book's Leroux she is not wearing a wedding dress. It is only in the musical and the book of Kay (I guess because I have not read all)

Oh, you're right about that! Well, shoot! Lol. If I decide to keep the veil (still undecided..) I should at least add that in the picture description...Thanks a lot!

I agree that she needs something in her hair, but the veil drawn looks a bit off. Maybe some sort of circlet? Something floral?

Hm...I think I'm gonna say with veil. I feel it completes the picture, otherwise she could be just some random girl in a pretty white dress. But it should be redesigned. Maybe smaller (?) so it doesn't clash with the "ruffles" on her dress.

Gah, the score is about 50/50 veil/non-veil right now. Very confusing.... I'm beginning to think I'll keep the veil, but do as you suggest and make it much smaller. Thanks a bunch for your input!

Hmmm...personally, I like the veil as it relates to the story, that it symbolizes her decision and all...However, it does draw your attention away from the main picture. Maybe a little less conspicuous, like shorter or something?
This is less criticism and more curiosity, but is there a special reason why he has the full mask as opposed to the half? Just wondering. I really like everything though, the shading, the emotion...It looks good!

Elf-in-mirror In reply to horseygurl258 [2013-09-05 21:54:49 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Yes, I think that's the direction I'll be going; veil, but smaller and less... showy, in lack of a better term.
The reason he has that mask is that, although I love the musical, I tend to prefer the book on which it's based - in which he wears a full mask. Thanks for asking, I should've stated that in the description to avoid confusion!
