Description Next up on assorted spaceships: this thing. Is this a series now?

I went into this one looking for some texture practice. I had zero ideas design-wise to start with, so I plopped down the major internal components in what seemed like a sensible configuration, draped some hull over it, and adjusted until something good came out.

Sort of like the "Terran Space Authority" Art in the 1970's.....Very Nice !

There's a second hand relation - TTA likely inspired Homeworld which inspired me.

Whoa, this looks incredible! I've not seen anything quite like it. Closest comparison I could make would be something from the TV show "The Expanse", but the coloring reminds me of something like the "Homeworld" video game series. This is amazing work and very original! Love the detail. Bravo!

Your interpretation is delightful to read since that's what I've been trying to go for - my own hard(ish) scifi aesthetic where Homeworld among other things is a major inspiration. Thanks.

Oh wow. I might be too geeky for my own good, hahaha! Well, you've created a great design that is more than the sum of its influences. Hope to see more!

Thanks! There'll be more as I get them done - those two are only real finished texture jobs I've done, besides a bunch of fiddling.

I've played around with CDE a fair bit. As for lore, yeah, plenty. There's a setting behind these that I use as the background most of my scifi things, though I don't have much of it online. I'd love to write up something but I've yet to decide what form to do it in.

Even tough there's only two ships that you dared show us, I absolutely love your work - Coming from a game like Children of a Dead Earth this is something I would very much like having in my fleet, well assuming it's under 200 mil..

PS if you haven't already give that game a try, you will most definitely find it inspiring.

Also, any general lore behind these ships?

Thanks!
Don't have a lot of finished stuff yet but there's a missile cruiser I'm texturing right now.

I am not a big fan of two cannons on ships.Β  During WW2 the aircraft typically had multiple guns for various reasons, I think Redundancy was one.Β  Now many fighter aircraft have either a single revolver cannon or a singleΒ  rotary cannon.Β  I know for most models it is done because of symmetry and visual flair but many military offensive aircraft are not symmetrical.

I personally would like the idea of a single gun and a targeting radar would be more interesting.Β  Near symmetry on a ship I think is more appealing than perfect symmetry.

I like the design, I just have my own personal thoughts.

I don't usually go for more than one main beam weapon, but most of the time I have lasers and for those bigger optics equals longer range, and range is king. I'm not completely sure how that goes for particle beams, but I think it has more to do with just what you're accelerating and how fast.

There's no deeper meaning to why this ship has two particle beam cannons. Might help with redundancy or tracking two targets at once. (assuming they can either swivel the gun a little bit or steer the beam) I do like reasonable asymmetry myself, this one just didn't end up having much. Incidental note: The targeting radars are the grey circles on the forward prongs the missile pods connect to. Next to it is a passive IR search scope; there's also one of those pointing to each side and the top and bottom.
