Description the Pata is a weapon from India that is believed to have evolved from the Katar (which has a similar punching blade design but no arm-guard) the handle is horizontal inside a rounded arm-guard, the guard allows for a longer blade (without straining the wrist) and provides defense! The Pata is one of my absolute favorite weapons! I plan on creating an even more evolved weapon.

with my internet down I haven't had much to do so I've tried to improve my photoshop skills the effects here are mostly just gradients but I also used the Chrome filter (which apparently works very well over gradients) I left the background black because anything else ruins the shine of the chrome.

let me know what you think, but keep in mind I may not be able to get back to you right away

reminds me of a weapon concept of mine, which has a cross-grip perpendicular to the blade rather than parallel to it, so the blade is vertical from your horizontal fist. Think of Wolverine and his claws, it's like that.

I like it! I always wondered if the kataar had ever gone futher.

I like the chrome effect too.

Not a bad design. But I thought the Pata had a normal handle? Your Pata looks more like a bladed gauntlet than a Pata, imo. Still, good work!

I'm not sure what you mean because a pata is also sometimes called a sword-gauntlet because of its design. it is basally a larger version of the katar with an armguard, and it has a horizontal handle nstead of a normal one.

that should be a link to an image and description

thanks!

Cool design. It's certainly something I could picture an assassin or trained guardsman using. And I agree, the idea of having a blade and armour in one is an awesome concept.

Very sleek looking. Nice shading.

What animal did you model the scales off of? Looks like like a pangolin.

I didn't use any actual animals for reference, but your right it does look somewhat similar, I was thinking of dragon scales... but of course I have no references for them

It's looks rather interesting, I'll admit. The chrome effect does make the handle look nice and shiny, but that itself would mean the grip is a little slick, no? You wouldn't want that slipping from your grasp at a crucial moment, right?

Other than that though, it is an interesting weapon design. The blade is simple, yet artistic in a way and the design for the handle is pretty snazzy. You do a lot of 'scales' effects for the handles, you notice?

chrome would be too slick, so the handle is actually wood (but you can only see it on the right) the chrome part is the outer arm brace

I didn't want the blade to be too boring so I added some curves, since it's mainly used for rapid stabs I couldn't have it too ornate so I came up with a middle ground that's both functional and (hopefully) interesting. I was originally going to draw a very basic pata but I just didn't like it, it needed something more so I went with an easy pattern and it worked out rather well. scales are easy and they work well (they're also segmented so they add just a hint of three dimensionality)

I suppose so, but it's the colouring that makes it really 3-D. I think it turned out well, though. It does have both form and function in good balance I'm sure.

I also love these kinds of weapons It is like if you were only using your punches. It would be really nice to have one of those weapons and master it
