It is no secret that I love to edit and restore vintage photos. The young woman in this portrait is especially intriguing, with her classic "knowing look." The original tintype was in an oval shape, and it took a lot of cloning to make a real rectangle out of it, and invent a few details.
You may notice her monocle, held, presumably, by a cord and a pin. I was tempted to edit it out of the picture, since its distracting. I changed my mind when I realized that it must be part of her character, after all.

Thanks so much for the new ideas about this work. The fact that the object may be a locket with a portrait or a lock of hair is quite intriguing. I confess I had no idea what Memento Mori jewelry was, but I looked it up. That would surely be a distinct possibility, and would jibe with her expression. Well, whatever the truth may be, it's always fun to speculate, and two heads are better than one.
