Description This past weekend I participated in a "Street Painting Festival" where 100 artists drew chalk drawings on the street.  There were various topics, sizes, and abilities...and they were so beautiful!!!  I chose to do a 10'x6' of one of my favorite paintings called "The Resurrection Mural" by Ron DiCianni.  I spent 4 hours Friday night sketching it out, 13 hours on Saturday coloring it and a couple hours Sunday adding the final details.  Honestly, I would have drawn more on Sunday but the weather was sooooo hot and humid, I just couldn't handle it.  Fortunately, this image still looks good even without the fine details.  Besides, it is almost impossible to get fine detail when drawing with chalk on asphalt.

Anyways, this image represents what is most important in my life, that is why I chose to draw it.  My relationship with Jesus is the most important decision I have ever made. And the resurrection is the most significant event in history - the day that God conquered death and the power of sin in people's lives.  Jesus rose from the dead, and the same power that rose Him from the dead is the power that works in the lives of people who love Him with all their heart.  This is so significant to me, I just don't know how to put it into proper words.  The beauty of art is that we can use it to communicate the deep things of our heart, sometimes better than with words.

Absolutely gorgeous! The colors and details are superb, and on asphalt! Amazing job and love the passion you put behind what is also of greatest importance in my life, accepting Christ and the power of His resurrection

I have seen that mural, it was in the Salvation Army War Cry, they did an article on Ron DiCianni.   You did a great job, it really means something to have entered in in this festival.  ;-D

Thank you for the encouraging words.  That is so cool that you saw the mural in person!  I've only seen pictures. BUT, Ron heard about the festival and actually came by to visit me.  It was really cool meeting him!

Um, no, I didn't see the mural in person, I mean it was shown in a short free magazine published by the Salvation Army every month.  If you have a Salvation Army Thrift Store in your town they usually have a rack of them, and they feature Christian artists and articles about them as well as on faith and teaching, encouragement, real life stories, etc.

Your version of the mural is real good. I cant imagine doing anything half as good with chalk on a hot day. I need me some air conditioning for quality art.

Next time I do this I'll work early in the morning and take a break in the afternoon. My husband told me to do that...but I thought "Naw, I can handle it".  Turns out I should have listened, lol!

The chalk blows away with the wind, so the light colors blow onto the dark and vise versa.  It makes detail even more difficult.  The larger the drawing is the more detail you can put in, so next time I think I'll do a larger one.  It turned out that 10'x6' wasn't very big at all.

10 feet by 6 feet wasn't big enough?!

Naw,  not enough room for detail on a rough asphalt surface.  Jesus' face was only 6" or 8" tall.  I couldn't even draw His eyeballs because there wasn't enough room.

Great! The soft blur of the chalk on asphalt give it a unique smooth touch. It looks amazing how it is!

Thank you!  I've worked with chalk before, but it was on smooth paper.  The rough street was a challenge to draw on. I'm glad you like how it turned out.
