Hah. An Edd sketch gone horribly awry.Double D's turned in early for the night--being the good boy that he is and all. Can't sleep with all that wondering what his friends are doing.. and why is he so obediant to a pair of parents that don't show him the same kind of responsibility he shows them? Lots of things to think about when you're trying to sleep. But wait! His parents have left him a handy list of books to help him with his "little problem". We've got some books about insomnia... some Psychology Today magazines... along with some Good Housekeeping and Independant Living! Make sure your FEED that compulsive neurosis about hygeine, Edd! It'll distract you from your REAL problems!
Don't blame me for the angst and/or realism. It was late. Lord knows I'm not implying that the show -should- be any less cartoony than it is. Its just that I switch gears sometimes and really can't help what form a drawing takes sometimes.
Anyway... Not a finished drawing.. and scanned large because there's so much damned TEXT!
Side Note: Another interesting thing I find about Edd.. is that he's the most prone to personal style. I find it really frustrating sometimes. Out of all the Eds--or any of the other cul de sac kids, he just... he ends up looking (at least to me) very much like -I- drew him.
But its not only me--I mean--he's the way I can tell who's done a storyboard fore Christ's sake. From Wootie to Scott to Joel to Jim. Even with the juniors--he's quite telltale.

i love edd dearly. i'll adopt him if his parents don't want him lol. why not just hire a housekeeper and give him to me? lolz anyway, awesome pic. i can see him doing this. i love how he's holding the pillow... and his little bunny feet lol so cute! (and angsty, but wc)

yeah to be honest i think i'd rather be his mom than his friend... unless i could somehow take the form of one of the eds. being friends with a girl would slightly ruin his cute nervous demeanor.

Thanks. Poor little Edd. Lost in a sea of cartoon slapstick. Its appropriate though. Part of the charm of Edd is that this stuff isn't focused on so much as its just hinted at on the show.

That is pure brilliance! First time ever I saw a person show Edd's separation from his parents in picture! They say a picture's worth a thousand words, well this picture's worth a book chock full of words!

I so agree with you on the fact that everytime someone draws Edd its different. I think thats one of the reasons that makes him so likeable to us artists, and also what makes us very frustrated...
I got Ed, Edd, n'Eddy DVDs for christmas, and man...after you watch those shows for a couple hours everyday you really know about the whole Edd thing. I have such a hard time with him, but you on the other hand....I just want to say (to sum this random ramble up) that all of your drawings of Edd are ablsolutely incredible and I have great respect for you. Your the closest Ive ever seen anybody get to being absolutely perfect when it comes to drawing him.

I love this. There is so much emotion in this pencil sketch it's almost too hard to look at.
I think Double D might also be my fave because he actually showed some extent of 'growing' during the course of the show. He started out very timid and 'doormat-ish' when it came to Eddy's schemes, but as the show progressed, he became much more sarcastic and confident, often standing up to Eddy if he greatly disagreed with his friend's actions. What an adorable kid he is!

Aaaw, Edd! I love DoubleD SO much. His big, fertile brain, extensive vocabulary and way with words, his geekiness and moralzzz. He's my favorite.
I love his face in this picture, and how he's curling around that pillow for comfort. His little feets.
Now, think you've said it somewhere before, that you actually do work in making Ed, Edd & Eddy? It's probably one of the best cartoons I've seen...the stories, the characters, the dialogue, and the animation! It's CARTOONY! There's energy and exageration and it just fits the story so well.

This is just heart-wrenching. Poor Double D. I want to rub his back, and sing him a lullaby until he falls asleep, like I've done for my kids.
My kids call each other Edd/Eddy all the time - it's their favorite, so it vicariously became mine.

What a wonderful composition...
It's sad, but it conveys the same hyperbolic realism the show has. This isn't just a kid with insomnia, this is how insomnia FEELS to a kid -- which is what I always loved about Ed Edd n Eddy.
And it took me a few minutes, but I realized WHY I find this so heart wrenching... It's the state of his bed. It's... a mess! It's completely un-Double D. He's so troubled by his inability to sleep, that he doesn't care about the state of his current surroundings... it's so troubling, it's making him act unlike himself.

Don`t worry.^^ I draw him many hours every day, too. Cuz I love him so much. Many people I know who watch EEnE, think it`s just a show. Some of them don`t like the show, and think it`s bad, silly and...yes. I must accept that. But to me, it`s REAL. It`s my favourite show, and one of my interests. It`s not just a show. It`s based on real events, and try to show us the real life of children. It`s based on Danny Antonucci`s own childhood. So Edd is more than a cartooncharacter to me.
You really show what u feel about him, and how much u like him.
I love your special style, and I use your some of ur pictures as inspiration sometimes.

Aawe, thats precious! I jyst want to pet him and hug him, is that ok? I LOVE how far down you drewe his ears. that, and his face and eyes express so much anxiety. youve caputired his thoughfulness and sadness and frustration perfectly! good job! Id like to have seen this one inked, because of the idea is good enough to keep as a finished piece, and that the contrast isnt very .. contrasty..
