Have you seen any of John Salt's work? He's a photorealist & paints similar subject matter

I missed this lovely painting of yours. It looks like a lonely town, yet so delightful the way you painted it

it was a tumble down kinda place, a few little galleries and some bars by the water, we stayed a night as we passed through on our honeymoon road trip

Love this piece, again reminds me of where I've grown up all my life (South Florida) and it seems simple the shading, but yet simple as reality it's self, lol basically it looks great, very nostaligic.

you must know this place then?! it is in Florida on the Gulf Coast
whereabouts in Florida are you? I'm jealous as i would love to live in Florida
i passed through Cedar Key on a road trip from NewOrleans to Miami and just fell in love with the old tumble down buildings, clapped out cars, and laid back people - could have stayed there a long time!

I live in Fort Lauderdale, which is very beautiful also, abouot 30min away from Miami. They call it the Venice of the US. It's nice, but I am moving to the mountains soon, I think I'll miss it very much.

30mins away from Miami, that must be on the east coast then?
the only place on the east coast we managed was Miami, we just ran out of time on our adventure, but if its anything like Venice where you are it must be stunning
i'm sure the mountains will have their own charms though, where are they?
we passed through so many unique places which each had their own special magic it would be hard to choose where was best
you can always move back!
just be glad you're not living in rainy old england!

I love the overall cinematic feel to the piece, like a painted snapshot. It gives the viewer a setting to lay thier own story over. Quiet but intriguing and very well painted.

it does look a little like a ghost town, empty and deserted but there's a sense something's about to happen - i should have painted a few tumbleweeds to add to the atmosphere
thanks for your thoughtful comments, much appreciated

The architecture reminds me of Australia...so does the quality of the light.

I have lost many friends to Australia, they go for a 'holiday' and then never come back!!!
Must be pretty amazing place, my friend calls up for a chat and there's cockatoos in her birdbath, and the weather is always soooo hot and she's off to the beach for a surf......
so exotic compared to here
this place is Florida, we did a honeymoon roadtrip Nov04, New Orleans for a few days, round the gulf coastline taking in little places in the middle of nowhere like this on the way, right down to the Everglades and across to Miami. An amazing adventure!
Cedar Key was very laid back, crooked buildings, tumble down kind of place, a few artists a few bars, miles from anywhere and surrounded by water, we actually stayed a night in that yellow building with the white balcony - my kind of town

hehe! yes i nearly went blind from all the concentration!!
it just took a steady hand and LOTS of patience - but i always had the telly/music on to relieve the most tedious bits! so some parts i'd do on automatic pilot while actually watching a movie!
still loved doing it though, cos every bit that appeared was a mini achievement that just pushed me on to the end
glad you like it so much!
