well, i just use a lot of white really, no big secret, i mix white into nearly every area, skin or not, and i paint my skins with cold tones, ie. raw umbers not burnt umbers, and some greys instead of true blacks
hope that helps, i am teaching myself as i go, not an expert in any shape or form!

This litterally looks like a tinted photo. Great job, especially the stomach and the glitter patches

aw thanks, she was topless in the reference pic and i made those glitter patches up to cover her a little (leaves more to the imagination that way i always think!) and adds a little burlesque glitz too

hehe, is there much call for those in Truro?!
there's certainly no call for my paintings in Wimborne, if i joined the Arts Club here i'd be painting bloody squirrels and fruit!
oh she should go for it, you only live once, i'd do it if i had her figure! and how many men can say they live with a burlesque dancer? wow

Your work is amazing and captures so much that a photograph can only capture by accident and not by design.

EmmaMount In reply to johnnysfumato [2006-10-31 15:57:58 +0000 UTC]
thanks!!
i did work from a photo, she's actually real which is the most amazing thing! A 24yr old burlesque dancer from Edinburgh, check out her myspace site in my description bit.
As for the painting, it is basically a portrait of her with some changes along the way eg. the background i made up, and she was actually topless so i gave her some heart patches to leave a couple of things to the imagination
the last three girls i did were from photos, the rest were made up pretty much
i like my new direction, its more exciting to paint real people even if it is from a photo

Meant to comment on this a while back.
I love love love this one! Your style is just so unique. The flesh tones are beautiful, and your rendering of the tattoo is just awesome. You just capture the colors and look of the women so beautifully.
I could go on, but you seem to have enough comments

Unbelievable . If I didn't know better I'd think this was a photograph . How do you blend your skin tones so well ? Are oil paints easier to blend than acrylics? I've never tried oils . Love it .
Later

EmmaMount In reply to bradferrone [2006-10-06 20:59:34 +0000 UTC]
thanks!
I have no idea what i'm doing though! trial and error
After i've put all the skin tones on the canvas where i want them, i blend the skin tones with a clean dry brush, that's all i can tell you
Lots of people think oils are harder once they're used to acrylic, but acrylics dry too quickly for me, i do all the skin tone blending when the oils are wet - just works for me
think oils and acrylics both have pluses and minuses
give them a go sometime

hi miss rosie-lee. thanks for another wonderful pic. so smooth and eadible. and the curtains are also so voluptuous, and the girl got some serious 'tude. did she pose for you, or do you use pics? are you exhibiting these show girls anywhere?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
EmmaMount In reply to im-buni [2006-10-08 15:06:14 +0000 UTC]
no she didn't pose, i wish i could organise something like that!! lucky for me she actually dresses like this for her shows, i asked her permission and used a photo to work from. i made some alterations to make the painting more my own, eg. i added the curtains and the hearts, but i made sure i kept her likeness true as she looks so amazing. i've not done a proper portrait before so it was a real challenge
Not exhibiting them as i've only done three so far, but it would be nice to work towards. I see you are in lots of galleries/shows, i'm terrible at putting myself out there. I have some random pictures in some random galleries - and they do sell - but i need to work towards something more serious - any ideas of galleries you've come across that might like me or a nudge in the right direction would be really appreciated!!

i would like to have an exhibition sometime next year with two other artists, ben frost [link] and simon lovelace [link] . i think your work would be a great fourth dimesion. we look at similar themes like sex, media, love, use text, are all quite graphic and design based, cute yet a little disturbing. i'm thinking in melbourne somewhere. but i am still trying to find the right place and i think your work would be quite popular in melbourne. what do you think?
