Megalis Array:

The Megalis Array is one of the Unions largest anti orbital installations for use on planets against orbital targets and enemy planetary invasions. The truly huge structure is many kilometres in size both height and certainly width, designed to withstand massive bombardment for long periods of time as well as shelter tens of thousands within its hardened walls. The Megalis Arrays are typically found near the planetary capital (or with the capital built around the array) or scattered across the surface of relatively important or built up planets. Containing massive CIC equipment for directing the respulsion of an invasion the Megalis array can link in to all other defensive emplacements around the world to direct fire as well as any orbital defenses as well. The array is capable of withstanding gigatonnes worth of ordnance for anywhere between several weeks and several days depending on the severity of the bombardment and can shelter up to several million at a push within its confines and underground in its heavily reinforced shelter areas, fully protected from the outside world. The Megalis however is more than capable of striking back at the invaders, armed with a plethora of powerful surface to orbit weapons such as Mass drivers, Meson lasers and orbital missiles it can shoot down incoming bombardments and engage ships trying to drop troops, however it is the main weapon that gives the Megalis array its legend. Armed with an immensely powerful set of Hyperfrequency lasers the array can fire 5 independent beams capable of spearing cruisers out to far orbit or concentrating them into one beam able to slice open dreadnought size vessels with ease. The Megalis array is also fully capable of withstanding a ground attack, armed with surface to surface weaponry and able to contain its own garrison troops and air wings the Megalis is a thorn in the side of any invading force, and one that simply cannot be easily ignored.
