I know, I know, "where are Blaze and the twins?" you ask. (Or maybe I'm being presumptuous and you didn't ask.) Anyway, this is just a lineup for the "Original Eight" if you will. The main characters in the first book; since Blaze won't show up until the end (er...spoiler?) and the twins won't show up until the second book, I figured I would just make a lineup of these eight. (Also, it saves my hand some trouble and allowed me to get it done in time to bring to my writing group, Sylvanopolis .)Some random stuff:
Vanessa and Michael's usual position in the lineup got switched around because I didn't want Michael and Cody's eerily similar poses to be right next to each other. Michael stole Eric's old pose anyway. Jace is nerding it up in full force with his Spock sweater. I hope to god that sweater is real somewhere, so that I may buy it. I love Michael's shirts. In case you wondered where these kids get their clothes (but you probably didn't): Eric--Old Navy
Vanessa--Forever 21
Michael--Whatever store carries Vans shit. Idk, Pac Sun?
Jesse--Your local hemp-shop. Whatevs, they exist.
Jordan--Whatever Hill buys for him.
Jace--That sweater was a gift from Elijah and Ray--everything else is a hand-me-down.
Karen--She actually probably shops at Forever 21 too. Idk.
Cody--Hell if I know. Whatever carries that kind of stuff--don't say Hot Topic.

Jesse's new appearance is definitely an improvement. If his hair has ever been cute, it's never been as cute as this.
And Vanessa is too sweet for her own good. So adorable!
The book Jace is holding... is that any book in particular? Because it looks identical to an old protocol from the 1920s that I took home after raiding an abandoned apartment - to cut a long story short. Haha. Neat coincidence.

Those're great designs, and I've been watching you work on them for a while and liked the way you dealt with the face and clothing.
May I offer a bit of critique here? I don't know if you're looking for that or not.

I just noticed that all of the characters, though different in height, have all the same body types. Their weight is distributed in the same way - all of them have the same thinness and lightness of form.
I understand a lot of this is your own intrinsic style showing through, but if you want to create truly convincing characters, you might want to consider playing around with the structure of their bodies. Vanessa I can tell is naturally softer and curvier as opposed to Karen, whose face and body is a lot more angular.
But the boys? Are all of them really that thin and broad-shouldered? Aside from their similar body shapes, they all stand out as individual characters thanks to facial structure and clothing. Their very canon body types almost take away from that good characterization.
But whatever you do, keep Jace's big nerdy sweater and Cody's skinny jeans!

Ohh, a good observation! I definitely agree. I haven't quite mastered the ability to draw different body types yet--it's taken me this long to alter heights without making the shorter ones look like they're ten-years-old. And you're right--Vanessa definitely has a curvier body type than Karen. Jace should also be smaller, like you could toss him over your shoulder with no effort. Eric's more or less as I want him to be, but Jesse could be lankier, Cody could be stockier, etc., etc.
Maybe in another two years when I probably redraw this again, I'll be better. My progression of shoe-drawing gives me hope.

why does it have to be two years form now? Take baby steps. Play around with using different shapes to make a human body, then flesh out the details. It'll take less time than you think.

Lastly, I love how shifty/un-happy Jordan is. Loving that trench. LOVING IT. o-o
Can't wait to see the other three's redesigns whenever you get around to drawing them. ^^ Your cast is one of the coolest around, and that's a fact.

Second: I am moved by the idea, that these guys have been so long with you and you are still working at their story. This encourages my not to ditch one of my fanfictions I write since...8th grade or so(I am 22 now...).

yep, Hot Topic may be what it is, but they do have some pretty neat t-shirts. I have... two from there. one that says "Death Eaters" on it, with the Dark Mark, and one with the Joker on the front. wonderful shirts. I love them muchly.

Anyway, thanks! And yes, totally. Usually my characters Power-Ranger it out by wearing their usual colors, but with Jace, nerdom won out, so he got a Spock sweater instead of his usual drab grey hoodie.

I so want to hug Jace, he's adorable with his clothes and the whole Jace-attitude. And did you by any chance changed Vanessa's face shape? She looks very, very different. Still sweet, though.
I'm happy to see the return of Mike's patented side-of-your-feet-stand. Also, is his smile bigger everytime you draw him or what? And goofier, too. He's radianting this confident "I'm back!" vibe. Ooooh, Mike.
And Karen's new hairstyle is nice. Did it really chance much or is it just the lenght and the fact that it's in hair-tie? By the way, purple suits her very much.
Since I already commented on all others in your previous seperate pictures, it leaves only Cody for me to comment on. And hey, did he change at all? Seems he's the most consistent of them. Well, it's nice to see him anytime :3

And yep, I forgot to mention, but I did change Vanessa's design. Since I magically made her half-Mexican now, I tried to alter her look a little to reflect that. Her face is a little rounder, her hair darker and curlier, etc.
I had to keep Michael's weird foot-thingy. Everytime I tried to draw him without it, it just didn't feel right. And lol, his smile does keep getting bigger and goofier. Soon he'll be all teeth (actually, no, that would be terrifying).
Karen's hair got a little bit longer, but I decided to put in a ponytail just because it looked really boring all flat-like. (I'm really abusing hyphens today).
Cody is totally pretty much the same. Just in skinnier jeans.
