Description Reposting because I have NO idea what happened to my other copy - musta accidentally deleted it.

A few notes:
1. I say this in the tutorial too, but - Only the artist who created the stolen work can file a DMCA.Β  If you see someone who's art has been stolen (but it's not you), the best thing for you to do is note them to let them know, and link them this tutorial.
2. You CAN file a DMCA for pictures that are in storage or located off Deviantart.Β  Just make sure you provide a link to the item, wherever it is
3. Yes, this IS a legal document, but don't let that scare you So long as you're making an honest claim, and to the best of your knowledge, your work has been stolen, you shouldn't have any worries about legal backfire.

So, it means the first box is the url to the stolen picture (not mine) and the last is the original (mine) ? English is not my first language so it's confusing...

Yes, that's right.

I've read that some original artists are reluctant to use that form because it requires that they post ALL their personal contact information and allow it to be made available to the art thief in question. That's the second box from the bottom above the signature. Β If the art thief in question is also a bully and/or stalker, having your personal contact information be made available to them can be very dangerous.

I honestly doubt that DA sends ALL the information, just the actual complaint.

MarySue1964 In reply to EnchantingRainbow [2017-07-14 23:11:41 +0000 UTC]

Aii the same. the fact that they have to provide all their personal contact information puts some people off on using that form. Β And there's no disclaimer indicating that personal contact information will be protected. Β And keep in mind that ths deviantart admins now have it in their heads that members and artists outside deviantart should work out all disputes among themselves. Β That's somewhere in the "helpful set of journals" that shows up as a link when you select the "permission issues" option on tbe Report Deviation button.

what aboutΒ when a person annoys a person hostilely for something they do not like, they report it and block it?

MarySue1964 In reply to CrazyBrothersStyleR2 [2018-01-23 23:44:24 +0000 UTC]

That's probably a separate issue not pertaining to art theft.

This is so helpful! But I was wondering if I could file this for my fanart as well as original art? :'oc

As far as I know, yes - fanart is still YOUR art, so it's still fine.

In the full name area, would we list our birth name or internetΒ pseudonym?

EnchantingRainbow In reply to nightsoils [2016-08-19 01:36:16 +0000 UTC]

Birth name, since this is a legal document.

Teleway [2016-07-11 22:36:03 +0000 UTC]

Is there a way to do this if the art thief has stolen screenshots off of official shows or games?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EnchantingRainbow In reply to Teleway [2016-07-12 17:31:20 +0000 UTC]

Unless the show or game is yours, no...you can try filing a report under the "problem content", but there's no guarantee that DA will do anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Teleway In reply to EnchantingRainbow [2016-07-13 02:14:18 +0000 UTC]

That's a shame. I mean, what if a big company takes offense and decides to get dA in trouble for not taking care of it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EnchantingRainbow In reply to Teleway [2016-07-13 17:02:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, in that case, they would simply file the DMCA - although probably through a lawyer, not the report system.

Thanks for making this tutorial.
I was really scared bc this has recently happened to a friend of mine, her art was getting stolen constantly.
But anyway thanks, it really helped me understand what to do in cases like this.

I'm glad it helped - I know how horrible having your art stolen is, and it's nice to at least know how to report it so DA can fix it quick.

Unfortunately, this only really works with your actual drawings. Most of the time, da ignores report claims. -_-

EnchantingRainbow In reply to Eternal-II [2014-08-18 04:07:34 +0000 UTC]

They have to, they can't actually legally process a DMCA that isn't about your own work.Β  That's why I say to note the owner of the work and link them the tutorial.Β

A DMCA? Very official and legal, hence why you don't want to lie.
