I couldn't rightly say, since I wasn't keeping track, but I worked on it at a couple of art events that were about 5 hours each, so more than ten hours at least.

Ballpoint pen... I fail to grasp the effort you put on making this piece, plus the detail level.

Endless crosshatching and layering, is how :Y
I just use regular bic ballpoint pens, there's some that are in unconventional colours like purple and green and light blue, but I also used black and red and dark blue. There's a few ink blots on the piece because that's the way of ballpoint pens, unfortunately, but I had a blotting page to prevent that as much as possible.

oh goodness, the circle on kyogre's head suddenly made me thing of koi, and that apparently Kyogre is the war god of koi
