Horrible. Horrible. Title.This was another half-finished drawing from a month or so ago I never bothered to finish until this morning.
She's not a fan character or anything, but I keep imagining her as some sort of juvenile Control Brain or something. Or mind controller. Controlling something, I dunno!
I experimented a bit with glitter, and oh-boy, do I adore glitter
Mainly on her cheeks, chin, the eye-cavity-thingies, and the helmet. I don't get the deal with the antennae, but I imagined them flipped over her face like that. Or the halo. Just something surreal and pretty really!Self Critique - I personally loathe drawing realistic mouths, and I still am not getting that lusture I was hoping for. I need to work on shading faces a little more, and I also worked out since Irkens don't have noses, they wouldn't have philtrums, meaning they wouldn't have the mini "indent" on their top lip. Gwaaaaaahhh. Oh well.
I need to try and get the nerve to try more masculine faces. Drawing guys.. I find that embarrassing still, I suppose
Oh, I also got lazy on the shading and highlights and didn't bother checking for how things reflected and bounced. I need to go study anyway.

There are so many things I love about this picture! First off, the eyes are simply breathtaking! All the colors you put into it really make them look fantastic.
For some reason whenever I look at this it makes me think that if you were to ever create a comic involving this character, this would be the perfect cover for it. It just screams "LOOK AT ME IM FANCY AND GLOWY! JUST READ IT!"
Your lighting is perfect on this, really. Don't be hard on yourself ,there's nothing wrong with it.
I really like the cool designs you put on the spots of her skin...its fancy!
I have to say one thing though: She can't really be a control brain considering they were just giant machines XD Unless she's a machine shaped like an Irken...?
I have hardly anything to critique besides the fact that the lips are what strike me as cartoony in this one. Just keep working at it though, because you're doing a fantastic job!

Oh, it's just that I was missing some elements, like the fact that her shoulders wouldn't be in so much dark and stuff. The edges of the helmet too, where a bit coloured-offly. It's not bad, no, but it's not my full-most potential, and I know it.

I think my main source of improvement recently came from looking at WIPs and the more detailed tutorials (the kind I was to flimsy to do any good at previously 
I know *14-bis has a lot of great WIPs to look at; one I often refer to is this one: [link] but the one that really got me deeper into the subject was this tutorial provided here: [link]
Both work in PS but it doesn't take too much to translate it to Paint Tool SAI terms.

I especially need to learn how to use gradients with all those backgrounds I'll be drawing in my comic. And I can see that your artwork is really improving. Great job and keep up the good work!

It has such an ethereal quality to it. Almost spooky but in a good way. You are getting better at realistic stuff. The antennae especially have a nice 3Dish feel to them. The concept of a young Control Brain, or perhaps a new generation of one that isn't so..blobby..Is an intriguing idea. Good job!

Realistic art - I'm pushing myself as often as I can. I have a little philosphy in my head that I try to follow as much as possible, and that is to improve each time from last major deviation.

Ah yes, the philtrum problem. I was wondering how many people noticed that- the only time I drew a realistic irken (that pencil one of Monarch) I omitted it purposefully. It takes a bit of work to get it looking okay, but to us I suppose it would never really look natural.
Beautiful colouring job once again. The lines around the eyes seem a bit jagged, but the eyes themselves are captivating. I also absolutely love the shading job you've done on the antennae- they just pop out at you, perfect 3D vision right there.
The extra effects are quite cool, but they take away from the realism of the piece a bit, because they are so much more glossy and vector-ish than the rest of the piece. There's this sort of strange contrast in there that makes it a little difficlut to really focus when the piece is in full view. No offense, but it comes together alot better from a distance.
Still, a pretty cool piece, with plenty of artistic vision C:

Yep. Not everyone has a fully defined philtrum anyway - the shape varies from person to person. I tried another front on sketch today, and they do make their face look a little chubbier. Well I'll be off to look for stereotypical alien pictures!

Sadly, in my opinion looking back at this, the antennae is the most realistic thing in the whole drawing. It really looks odd compared to the semi-realistic on the Irken there and it's just plain awkward now. I'll need to work back on skin again.
Yeah? Kinda flat and stuff? I can see what you mean with those pinkish circles, and the cross-hatch lines. It's a little experimental since I never used those funky brush things on any of my other digital paintings. Been picking it up from little animish artworks like this [link] of which tend to have random patterns thrown in.
And no worries - a lot of the time I feel my stuff looks better from a distance too, so it's nothing new there XD

I think it's mostly your new shading technique, I must say, I like it very much and you're improving quite fast considering realism.
Though this face looks pretty doll-like it looks also much more plastic than your usual cell-shadings from earlier. Keep going! ^^^
