Description
Before the days of Photoshop (or at least in the days before I heard of such a program), I did tons of small bitmap-based pictures. True, I've posted such before on my DeviantArt gallery, but those were of decent sizes and interest. For all that miscellaneous crud however, I present the Fun With Bitmap series, which not only features these various pictures in collages, but also updated slightly for your viewing pleasure.*********
Continuing with giant monster fan art as the unifying theme, we have the Ultra Mother (AKA Mother of Ultra) at the top of this compilation. The very first female Ultran of Tsuburaya Production's long running franchise from 1973's "Ultraman Taro", though to be honest, there have been more impressive heroines from Nebula M78 who could kick some serious monster behind. But it's the Ultra Mother who remains the only one people seem to remember, hence her making return appearances that continue to this day. Behind the silver giantess is my own take on the Land of Light, the mythical city / capital / homeworld of the Ultrans.
*********
Also from "Ultraman Taro" we have the very comical log-based monster Mochiron, who is some sort of magically animated Usu; a wooden device traditionally used in the making of rice based foods, such as Mochi rice cakes, of which Mochiron gets his name from.
Basically the episode that featured this guy was a Mochi-related holiday special, where the rampaging Mochiron is finally subdued by the combine efforts of Taro, the ghostly Ultra Father, and the former female host of Ultraman Ace and now giantess moon princess Yuhko Minami, which, huh, then...erkk...
Okay, it was all very weird and crazy adventure as only a holiday special (American AND abroad) could be. But despite all this, Mochiron was a pretty good fighter as he rolled, breathed fire and sumo wrestled against Ultraman Taro, and hence why I drew the lovable menace. Now some much needed links as I'm not as hip to Japanese culture as many might believe:

And finally we have a way less complicated take on a true moment of Godzilla history from 1995, satirized by yours truly, and co-staring my all time favorite giant-anything Hedorah the Smog Monster; Enjoy!

how many other female ultrans have there been besides Ultra Mother? You'd think at least one of them would have her own show by now...

Not really, only in limited supporting roles; here's a rough list of lady Ultrans, including two evil ones.
Yullian from "Ultraman 80"
Ultrawoman Beth from "Ultraman the Adventure Begins"
Ultraman Justice from "Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice: The Final Battle" (at least 'its' human form was female)
Andro-Flore from "Andro Melos"
Ultraman's Jonias sister (forgot her name), from "Ultraman Jonias" AKA "The Ultraman"
Ultra Seven's sister (minor character from comics, whose continuity is questionable with the main franchise).
Dark Faust from "Ultraman Nexus"
Kamilla from "Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey"
There's also the fact that "Ultraman Ace" had two human hosts, one of which is female, while "Ultraman Nexus" had several human hosts, one of which was briefly a girl.

Ok, let me take this time to say I am REALLY,REALLY,REALLY,REALLY, sorry for dropping the conversation we had all together. That was terriable of me and I should have said something. What's worse, I never actually forgot about it, I just kept putting it off and never made a reply. Again, very very sorry, if you want to start the chat back up again I'd be glad to make up for it.
About this: Very nice! Looks quite good and fairly detailed, espeacially the Ultra Mother panel. The one with Godzilla and Hedorah cracks me up; absolutly classic! "Mochiron" seems like an intresting monster, even if unusual for the Ultraman series. A wood-based kaiju is an odd design, but also an original one. The episode indeed sounds strange (I think in that one sentence you refrenced 5 things I've never heard off), though with a monster battle of such prepotions that it's curtainly worthy of my attension.

Don't kick yourself over the lack of correspondence, after all your talking with me, the Belated King! Still, I always enjoy your posts and hopefully we can keep it up on and off of DA in the future. What's worse, I don't truly recall where we left off or even if I still have our last letter to be honest. *Egg-Zilla kicks Enshohma is the groins*
The Ultra franchise is so unique for a number of reasons, with the variety of monsters, aliens and other fictional creatures being among the most notable of reasons. Which range from the traditional dinosaur kaiju to purely comical characters and alien races both large and small. So Mochiron isn't really that bizarre, outside the fact that he's based around a Japanese-only holiday, hence me unable to make sense of the episode in a single sentence. Besides, Mochiron has nothing on the giant Pinocchio alien from episode 46 of "Taro":

I'm also glad you enjoyed the Hedorah / Godzilla / Destroyah gag, along with the Ultra Mother panel. And I also tahnk you for the multiple favorites as well!

And I got all worked up over letting your note burn a hole in the inbox...
I believe we left of descussing the monsters of the Gamera series.
Too true, the vairious Ultraman TV shows and movies have brought more aliens, kaiju, kanjin, and other oddities then I think any other media. Even with the totally freaky looking alien/robot/pinocchio-thing aside, Mochiron is still pretty unique. But yeah, compared to some of these other guys (and gals) he's farilly tame...
Heh, your welcome! You've made some great stuff I must say.

Thanks for the kind words, and I apologize for the horribly belated reply; I've sadly been busy of late, for reasons both good and bad alike, though I hope to post some new works before the week's end.
Sadly a lot of people sort of despise the variety of monsters in Ultraman, as alien invaders are one thing, but the other lesser non-giants become a sour point for them. Still, I hope the franchise still lives on, even if we have no clue what will become the future of Tsuburaya Productions.
Oh, are you familiar with Doctor Who, the newer seasons / series?

By all means, do what you must. Not every one can have far far too much time on our hands...
That's true, many people dislike much of the Ultra series' monsters, though I don't think they give them a chance. I my self like the smaller kaiju; they allow for interaction with humans that the bigger guys have trouble pulling off. After all, I'm Shockirus in the deviantART Toho Monster Crew!
Not really, I've heard about it, but never have taken the time to watch it. I think maybe I'll try and look around for the older series to see what it was like, and try to watch the new one. What with aliens, time travel, british dudes, it curtaily sounds intresting.

Well, after last night, I'm convinced that even Ultraman fans themselves don't appreciate the wide variety of monsters in their own franchise; there's an organic food creature named C-Pin 929 who pops up in "Ultraman Mebius", who is clearly a movie, living mass that grows giant size, but is often left out on articles on the matter.
Same thing happened with the Sulfan plants of the original "Ultraman", Varsite the massive bio-mechanical ship and incubator of the COV from "Ultraman Gaia", and the Giant Brain, master of the Ido aliens, from "Ultraman Tiga". Guess if its not a traditional giant monster that looks like a Godzilla-type, people tend to ignore them.

Why? What happened last night? I was only up til' 12. Did a band of Ultra-kaiju trample through Osaka dancing to a Tom Jones album? What would make you convinced that the Ultraman fandom dislikes it's own diverse range of monsters?
I not going to pretend I have any idea what monsters your refering to, (though a bio-mechanical ship sounds cool) but I get your point. The most original, unique kaiju and the ones that get the least amout of love. With the exseption of Hedora, most non-dinosaure/giant animal monsters are totally forgotten.

You're right, but also even we Godzilla fans unfairly ignore giants in our own films; The Giant Devilfish (octopus) may be no Mechagodzilla, but showing up in three films and being quite large in its own right deserves some recognition. Same goes for a lot of the secondary Ultra Monsters I mentioned.
The episode with Varsite and the Baby COVs, from "Ultraman Gaia" is quite fun, as it's almost nothing but a half-hour aerial chase.

I think your bad habit for belated replies is contagious...
That's quite true, there are plenty of G-kaiju that go with out love. Daidako is a perfect example; not only did he first appear the HUGELY successful King Kong VS Godzilla, but showed up again afterwards rendered with quality pupetmation for his senes. Granted that his next two appearenses were reletivly obscure, and one movie had him intirely edited out, his appearense in KKvsG was very well executed and should have been enough to make him popular as a monster, but I guess people need beams and title names to remember a face.
Half-hour aerial chase? Sounds cool. I must see some of the Ultra Series. Maybe Youtube can help me out here....

Most of the Ultraman related stuff available online are selected, subtitled episodes of Ultraman Mebius. Off the bat from YouTube, I have two episodes to recommend. Ep 16 of Mebius features several evil warriors from the past, including a bloodthirsty new character named Zamushar, a samurai-like being with a very demonic face, done through effects make-up:

And the first episode of Ultraman Max, featuring the cool monsters Grangon and Ragoras, and was directed by Shusuke Kaneko, the dude behind GMK and the 1990s Gamera trilogy:

Veol (or however you spell their name), probably has tons more Ultraman related items, subtitles one and all, but for now I thought I'd share something of interest. Love to hear your reviews on them later as well.

Well, Mochiron would make a good video game fighter. Maybe Ultra Mother too, though I gather the game's secret charcater 'Ultra Venus' is better battle wise.

I don't have Mochiron's episode, BUT I do have a series of video specials called Ultra Big Fight which features a segment with the guy. Keep that in mind for our future trades, and I did get you PM and will reply to it tonight.
