Description
My second completed animation attempt. (the first one )Gah, it's been a while. I spent, I think, a total of 4 hours on this one with no light table. I usually throw together a makeshift one if I try animation, but I just traced the whole thing as best and as fast as I could this time with thin, typing paper from who knows when. (I drew 24 frames and added a few with PS for the fade out)
The flow turned out better for the expression and tear than I had expected. And considering I've never gone to animation school, or got past the basics in highschool, I think I'm improving. I'm doing tons of self study on youtube right now. You can find so many demo reels there!
;D Hope you guys like!

Nice.
Some of the frames could have more delay to make it more emo tho.

Wow, given that you've never formally studied animation, this is really well done. The whole face moves very smoothly, and the tear flows very well. The only thing I think seems a little off is the pigtails. Something bothers me about how straight it becomes when the rest of the head is moving up. Still, this is a really good example of animation. Good job!

Ah, now that's something I wouldn't debate at all. it bothered me too to a certain extent, but I was too tired after 3 hours of tracing straight to care anymore. XD *saaaaaaad* I'm regretting that decision, but regardless I shall learn from it for next time. ;D
Thanks very much for your honest critique and encouragement!

I love the shifty, sketchy look and it's beautifully animated. The "mistakes" only add to it's artistic-ness.

I love the tear, too.

I love this! I've actually always wanted to make a short animation drawn by hand, but I've failed to nag my parents for a trip to the art store to get tracing paper, lol.
The more you practice the better you will definitely become. And I will cheer you on the whole way! -raises mechanical pencil to you- heh...cheesy, i know xP Anyways! Keep up the awesome work and practice a ton!!! >:] you'll do great!

*cough* actually, I just found some old typing paper. X'D Thin as can be, which is great, but not all of them are consistently cut. bleh.
Thank you! I will! Thank you for the encouragement!

Yeah I could try my hand at the typing paper, but I'm sure tracing paper is a lot easier, lol. you could go in with photoshop and take out the yellowish-gray color too.
And you are most certainly welcome!

Nicely done! Hmm... I wonder if I steal this and digitaly animate it....muahahah! Just kidding!
If my prof see's this I think I'll gonna say the same thing:
Little stiffy but a very good step. A little tweaks in frames, will give a natural motion to it and give a life like motion.
What can I say? I'm impressed to you girl! Your so talented!

EpicMyst In reply to Tidusyuna [2009-09-09 00:15:09 +0000 UTC]
THAT WOULD BE WAAAAAAY COOL. But I'm sure you'd get tired of it real fast. XD And thanks! I'm really glad you are. I have a long ways to go tho. >v<
ooOOoOO - tell me, tell me. What tweaks did you notice could be made? I'd like the feedback! ^^

Tidusyuna In reply to EpicMyst [2009-09-11 13:32:02 +0000 UTC]
heheh! The tweaks I was talking about is motion tween. That is where lots or images are done between frames to have a smooth animation. More dramatic timing from the frames.
From head down and closing eyes, pause for a sec then slowly move to heads up high open eyes then a tear on her eyes.
And you can add, closing her eyes again and smiles. Now that's making a dramatic ending! with a little soothing touch!

Great job!
I have two years of animationschool behind me so I know what you've been through, its really hard work. I'm really impressed.
Some critiques, I know it's more work/more frames and that this is only a "sketch" but I think you ought to slow it down when the girl looks up. It's as if she is startled by something.. if she looks up slowly I think you would bring more pain and emotion into her character.
Secondly I think you should "build up" the tear before she looks up, then the tear would fall.
This animation makes me want to animate again! It's been too long!
Again, great job!

EpicMyst In reply to Fiamattsson [2009-09-09 00:21:39 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I had intended it to be slower to a certain extent, but it's been so long since I've done anything - my judging of pacing is a tad (aka HUGELY) off. XDDDD
Looking back I think I would have drawn out the beginning more and kept a little bit of speed with the whip up still, but hoping to get across pain in the beginning and then exasperation as she flicks her head upwards to cry. And you're totally right. Originally I was going to do that for the tear and then decided to try something different - I think it would really have been effective if I had. ^^
Thanks so much for your feedback! All of it is going into my permanent memory banks!
