Little icon commission I picked up in my spare time for !The fun little indecisive switcharoo idea was all hers! I had fun bringing it to life!
I'm still working on finding a simple way to price icons--especially these sitting ones that have so many different possibilities! Some are so much more complex than others and take hours to make, but some take only one hour; so doing a flat rate isn't really the most advantageous. But I really like having one payment all up front. Any ideas?

I'd say just bill it per hour plus ten/fifteen/tenty dollars for a flat rate. Give examples of how long some take, and once you make enough you'll be better at judging how much one would cost and can make estimates on a case by case basis.

I'll do my best. Bronycon is starting to sound scary.
Lucky Derpy is one of the easiest ponies to make. No lines in mane and tail, and no extra colors. Just simple and sweet. So $ shouldn't be too bad. Lets see if I can make them in a single week. ^W^

Yeah, it really allΒ depends on what I'm doing. If it's embroidery, tracing/cutting, pinning, hand sewing, or clipping seams, generally I'm watching Netflix. If I'm sewing on my machine, however, I like to concentrate really hard so I most often listen to music then.

I know enough Japanese to not need to read subtitles as much. So it helps. ^W^ Also sometimes artanimation can be horrible for some anime, but the plot is great. So sewing while I watch/listen is perfect.

I learned a lot of Japanese from anime songs. ^^ll
Also listing to Anime and focusing on how they talk helps.
The only thing I have trouble with is the particles and new words I don't know.
True, also everyone has a special learning skill. I've been really good at picking up lauanges, and I can look at a bunch of sentences and tell you what language they are in. I'm just really good with it somehow.

I only know a few phrases myself, but only because they're the common ones in animes.Β
That's a neat talent! I, myself, find I can soak up information like a sponge. I'm the hated person that can go to class, take notes, do the homework, but never study a lick and make B's on exams. I know I can draw and sew, but I consider my true talent to be knowledge retention!Β

Yeah, it easy to pick up if you hear so much like: Kawaiso na (Poor Thing), Hayaku (Hurry), Sou Desu Ka (Fromal "Is that so?")/ Sou ka (informal "Is that so?", Mata Ne (See you Later), Mata Ashita (See you tomorrow), ja nae (bye), ja (Very rude later.), Daijobudesuka (Are you Okay?), Daijobu (I'm fine.), etc... I'm going to get carried away if I keep on. ^^ll
I did the same think in school, but I think it was due to the fact they where teaching to the dumbest people in the class. So I ended up sleeping/drawing/reading in class often, cause I was always placed with football players. I have many horror stogies on that... ^^ll
I think everyone has more than one talent, though my language skills I feel is more of a knack. Possibly the only reason I am good at sewing is cause I was sewing since I was 5. So 19 years of sewing experience. Though only 11 years of machine sewing experience. I was afraid of the machine for a very long time. ^^ll

I mean, I think as a kid sewing you're always intimidated by the machine! I know I was. But, sewing is a pretty exponential skill! You learn a lot very quickly, so tons of sewing experience means your the tip of the top!

The more you sew the better. ^W^
True, I was 13 when I finally gave up, and got over the fear of the machine. Cause hand sewing cosplay is hard.
Originally, I think sewing was kind-of forced on me. My Great Grandma was a seamstress, and I guess she was hoping that by having me sew I would be around more. I remember her teaching me how to make patterns, and showing how to work the machine when I was 8. But that stuff was way too confusing back then. She still taught me about sewing until she died at the age of 94, I was 18.

My aunt is who inspired me. She used to sew all the time. Costumes, dresses, whatever the occasion called for for me. She's gotten severe arthritis in recent years so she hasn't been able to do as much as she used to. But, I think me sewing brings joy to her heart knowing I'm enthusiastic about the craft in her stead.

That will be fun though. I am glad I don't need to move my sewing stuff. I really wanted my own room for sewing, but my husband was only thinking about one room for us and another for my Brother (though my brother hasn't moved in yet.) Though even if I had the 3 room, all these apartments are made in the 1970's so they don't have light fixtures on the ceilings. They apprently used lamps in the rooms, it was the tend they said. So the bedrooms are unusable for sewing. T.T We are planning to move out here this year into a house, cause the people above me are very inconsiderate. Not because of like heavy footsteps, or moderate sounds. Mostly cause they shots form the sidewalk to the balcony everyday. Throing sticks at their balcony. Being very loud playing in the snow at 1am in the morning. Hanging to dry their rug over the balcony so low that I have to dunk under it, or I'll have it in my face. (I don't mind them drying their rug, but could it have been a bit higher up, or maybe hang on the side of the balcony not the front?) Things that slowly got under my skin. I never called in on them, or told them it's irritating though.
All the kitchen and the 2 bathrooms are now empty of stuff, and moved into the extra bedroom. I'm not looking forward to moving stuff back. Not to mention all the dishes will need to be re-washed, cause my cats need to be lock in that room too. So they may climb about on it. I wish they gave us more than a 20 hour notice. I would had arraigned for someone to hold my cats for a day, so they can be safer.

I got to toss a ton of junk that I have never used. I wish I could have donated it, cause it was some nice stuff. Like Parmasion shakers, ketchup and muster bottles, a old frying pan, old biscuit cutter, I have so many things I got form the wedding I don't need either like, a toaster oven, blender, mixer, and such. I did keep them, but I don't need them.

Yeah, we used it one time. It was for a peanut butter, scrambled egg, yogurt, milk malt thing...yeah my husband wanted to get a lot of protein cause he had his wisdom teeth pulled/cut out of him the day before. Oddly, it didn't taste too bad.
I would use the mixer more if I wasn't so use to living without one. I spent my whole life mixing everything by hand; cookies, pies, cakes, and any bake good. Though I wish I remembered I owned it on Pi day. Cause hand mixing a cheese cake was the hardest thing ever.

I use the stand mixer we have at the house most of the time, lol. It's a pain to clean, but it mixes everything so nice! Lol.
I'm scared I'm not even going to have enough attendees to my wedding to make a gift registry lol. My boyfriend and I keep to ourselves a lot and the only people I feel would come would be the older people in my church who watched me grow up... But most of them are dead The only real disadvantage to being raised by elderly women
I might just have a small family/friends ordeal and ask for gift cards XD Is that tacky? I don't want a ton of things like crystal punch bowls and obscure kitchen gadgets I'll never use lol.

kiashone In reply to equinepalette [2015-04-08 13:49:48 +0000 UTC]
I never own a stand mixer. But I use to be in the advance cooking classes at my school, so I did get to use one there.
Don't worry about it. I only had some church members to mine, and some family members. I think I only have like 25 people there.
I didn't do a registry for our wedding either. I did request if they wanted to give a gift then they could give gift cards or towels....yeah... do not add towels. I have a lot of towels now...
I didn't think it was tacky to ask for gift cards, since I was moving, and I didn't want to pack a ton of stuff, or it breaking in the move. I still got a lot of stuff for the kitchen that I will never/rarely touch, even though I requested no items.
If the kitchen here was bigger, I would use more of them. Since I put them away, I barely touch them. The life of limited counter space. I hope I get to move to a place with more counter space, and a extra room with a light fixture. I just have to wait and see.

Well, to be honest the house I grew up with had a pretty big kitchen...but my mother was a hoarder, and we lost a ton of space because of it. I didn't have a say in the place we moved into currently, because it was 15 hours away form my home, and my husband had to pick it out. He did good. Just we are tired of this place already. I did get more kitchen space in some aspects, since I keep my place clean and tidy.

Well congrats for conquering that! Living in a hoarding situation often causes non-hoarders to at least keep messy homes. I think I'm just a messy person regardless, lol. In my defenses, a full schedule and a cluttered dorm room full of fabric and plush supplies do t exactly make cleaning easy! I just can't wait to go back home to a nice spacious hous 0_0

My mother grew up in a home, that throw away almost anything if it had a hole, or broke an arm, sometimes even good stuff. So she basically wasn't able to keep anything, so she started to keep everything once she got out.
I was forced to keep everything. So the bedroom I grew up in (8x10Ft) was pretty cramped. One day during winter break in college, I got fed up with it. Told my mom, I need to clean out my room.
She said that she wants to look over the stuff before I threw it out. So I gathered 23 large trash bags up, and set them in the living room. I told her to look them over, and I'll toss them out once she approves. She looked over 3 of them, and then let the rest sit for a few weeks. I told her we need to get them out, and she did go though one more, but then she hopped on the truck with my dad for a few month. I wasn't going to deal with those bags anymore, so I trashed them. When she got back, she asked where they where and I told her I dropped them off at the free store. She was cool with that for the most part.
My old home had a infestation of bugs, and I hated it. They only seemed to be in the kitchen there, though in recent years we've got it mostly managed. Today the apartments got a bug spray, so it's nice to know they hate them as much as I do. Though I've never seen a single bug in here ever, but it's good to be safe.
Well, I don't keep the house perfectly neat. I sweep the floor 3-4 times a week, and vacuum once a month. So I'm not like overly OCD about it. I just like it when the place looks organized. Though in my mad dashes of sewing, I do tend to leave a mess of unfolded minky on the living-room table. ^^ll But who doesn't do that every now and then.
Yeah, I total agree. Small spaces, and sewing stuff is hard to manage. Then with added work on it, there is so little time. I never judge someone by how them keep their home, cause you never know what type of life they led. Sure one can be negletful, or want to keep everything, but they can be busy most of the week, or plain tired form work, and kids. So when I walk into a messy home. I just accept it...unless there are roaches, rats, and mice...then I'm not sitting down anywhere, or eating a thing. *shivers*

Yeah, bugs and rodents in a home really irk me too. Ants in the summer and the like are often hard to keep out even in clean homes, so that doesn't really bother me, but cockroaches or rats--there's really no excuse.
I grew up in a ridiculously clean home. Like, pretty much OCD clean home. Vacuume several times a week, dishes cleaned immediately, clothes washed before the basket was full--always hung up afterwards. The thing that troubles me today is that I was never a neat freak, so I don't notice things as being "dirty" as soon as my aunts do, and I get blessed out for it. I forgot to close a drawer when I made a sandwich? Heaven forbid it stays open for 10 minutes while I eat. That sort of thing. I'll be super glad when I have my studio downstairs where they can't complian about the "mess" since they don't go downstairs anymore.

Yeah, ants are so hard. I started sprinkling red pepper flakes around my apartment, to help with that. Also when I see an ant trail I clean it with vinegar. They hate it for some reason. When we first moved in here last July I had ants eating my cat's dinner. So I did that, they seem to leave after that.
Dishes gets done here once a day. Laundry is done 1-2 times a week, depending on how full the baskets get. So I'm not that super clean here.
Well, worst comes to it you can always hire someone to come over once a week to tidy up. My Great Grandma hired a lady to do that for her, because she got to the point where she couldn't maintain it on her own.
I hear you. Sometimes, you don't want anyone over your shoulder while you work over how messy the area looks. My mother was like that. Which is funny cause the whole hose was a mess. She expected me to clean the whole house up, like it was my fault it got messy. I remember cleaning up the living-room many times it near stayed neat for more than a week. T.T I gave up on that.Β

Awe, you'll make it though!
So how are thing as of late?
I only have the rest of today and tomorrow left for my frist week of BronyCon stock. I got 2 Derpy's done. One Derpy has all the machine sewing done, just needs all the hand sewing, and stuffing of the mane and tail, plus wings. Then I have hand sewing and mane making for a Velvet Remedy, and just making the mane and tail, plus hand stitching for Starlight Glimmer.
I hope to at least get the 3 left done this weekend.
I also feel really bad about Starlight Glimmer, she doesn't had any nostrils. T.T Remember a while back I told you I had embroidered an extra Starlight?
Well, on March 23 I started adding nostrils to my embroidery files. That Starlight was Embroidered around the March 14. So it made me sad that she has a new pattern, but is using old files. Though I doubt anyone will complain, considering I never put them on before hand.
π: 0 β©: 1
equinepalette In reply to kiashone [2015-04-11 17:43:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's the only problem with adjusting your files or pattern in the middle of prep work! The nature of the assembly line process means you'll have some out of date stuff! I've yet to put nostrils on my files--I've just been adding them in with hand sewing. I might change it in the future, might not.
For me, nothing has really changed. I got a little bit of sewing done yesterday on a Fluttershy beanie, but not more than an hour of work. I've got a ten page paper to write today, so art is once again on the back burner for me. FRUSTRATION.

I miss, working one pony at a time. Cause each one will have all the best at that time.
I never really liked the nostrils on the ponies, so I never bothered with it. Since I want them to be more show accurate, I was like if, "I'm adding them, then their going to be embroidered."
I did a test run with tape for the table on my floor, form what I can tell the table size it 8'X2'.
So I placed my metal cages and my embroidery machine into the area. Turns out I needed more than 4'X'2, Minimal 6'x2'.
So I had to send an apology note to my planned partner. T.T I feel so horrible, if only I had did this test run sooner, I wouldn't have gotten their hopes up. It was a over-site on my part, possibly me being optimistic, and wanting to help others out. I'm so horrible. T.T
