Well, this might help:
I called the design 'Winter Queen'(because it does seem like a winter gown), and IMO winter suits her best because it's mostly known for being 'bitter', but it's actually very needed.
If you noticed, the...'dress folds' go from (at first voilet)purple to blue to green/rather dark to light, which is a 'refence' to both the sky and a rainbow, because:
1. When you go higher in the sky it gets lighter.
2. The voilet/purple 'folds' resemble red(and red can halfly resemble orangle) and purple
The blue ones - blue.
The green one/s - green.

it's not that the design doesn't work, its that I... keyword to mean an opinion... feel that dresses just don't seem to fit her personality. i understand if you think it does, and i encourage you to create more works of personal enjoyment.

Though, honestly, I don't think a gala dress MUST resemble the pony's talent, since, for example, Fluttershy's gala dress(the offical one) is centred around flora, while her talent is centred around fauna.
Plus, this dress-[link] doesn't resemble Pinkie either, yet, evryone enjoyed it.
