Description
Another obvious choice for my Greek Harry Potter characters. Doesn't Professor McGonagall just seem like Athena? The Goddess of wisdom, strategy, battle, discipline, guidance, and chaste all seem fitting for McGonagall. Athena (who coincidentally lived in Athensreference [link]

LOL!! I love this, awesome!! They do act alike! Never thought of it XP
BTW, Athens was named after Athena, after she won a battle with Poseidon by presenting the people of Athens with the olive tree, while Poseidon gave them a salt water fountain. They chose her Sorry for the greek history lesson!

I do think she was named Minerva for that.
Yes, I know Athens was named after her. Just a silly joke. Kind of like saying the pilgrims left from Plymouth, England and what are the odds! They landed at Plymouth Rock, NEW England!
Oh, don't worry, I love all the Greek stories!

I have been struggling for a Zeus for a while now and a suggestion from someone here (because I told her I was very open to suggestions for a lot lol) gave me a great idea. I have a surprise for Zeus!
And I think I have a good one for Harry, too!

Oh yeah, very clever Love the concept behind it!
(And I think miss Rowling's choice of McGonagall's first name is anything but coincidental...)

ErikRoger In reply to SaxGirl92 [2011-01-31 01:26:08 +0000 UTC]
Ah yes, the popular Professor Vector (not to be confused with Professor Synistra, or however it's spelled)! Oh! Professor Sybil Trelawney, too. Also, all the Blacks (Malfoys, Tonks, and LeStrange) seem to be named after stars. There was an Oswald who was a British Nazi sympathizer, so that is fitting for Cornelius Oswald Fudge.

Wow now I learned something new from you! About the Blacks and Cornelius Oswald Fudge
(I think his last name's also significant because he's a bit of a softie, isn't he?XD)

I just looked that up because I didn't know what it meant. "Stranger love." That's perfect!
But I hate hate hate who was cast to play him in the movie! Too young, too creepy (in a creepy way, not in the Xeno Lovegood way), didn't really fit the description, and he looked too much like Luscious.

That's right
Oh yeah, I know what you mean... I didn't like him much either - that is one character they did NOT cast well...=/ For the rest of the lot, they've always done a PERFECT job on the casting!

ErikRoger In reply to SaxGirl92 [2011-02-02 21:59:51 +0000 UTC]
I've had a few. While Umbridge was perfectly evil, I think she was miscast as far as looks go. Snape is done well, but Alan Rickman is too good looking and too old (like, older than Jason Isaacs who plays Luscious and Ralph Phiennes who plays Voldemort). And Voldemort (to me) looks weird. But they all well, you know.
I LOVE McGonagall, though!

Late reply is late OTL sorry!
I can see your point there. I'm reading the HP series again and have come to the conclusion that Snape must actually be really young, in his 30s throughout the series... I never got that impression from the moviesXD He does appear so much olderXD
And yes, McGonagall is brilliant! I also admire the casting team for selecting just the right people to play the students! Because I feel that every single one of them has had the ability to stay so true to their character throughout all the movies...

ErikRoger In reply to SaxGirl92 [2011-02-14 00:15:57 +0000 UTC]
Lol movie Snape has nice(ish) hair that is not greasy and somewhat of a tan in the later movies.
Yes, I think the students were well cast, too. Except (here's where people will want to kill me) I kind of think Harry could have been anyone. But Dan's fine, you know. My favorite student is Tom Felton as Malfoy (in the early and later movies, not so much the middle). And I think Fleur and Ginny ARE "pretty enough." Now that I think about it, Viktor Krum is the only one I think was off in the movies.

Late reply is SUPER late OTL... SORRY!T^T
Yeah I see what you mean Now you mention it, Snape's tan was kinda obvious in the later movies
Oh well, I'm not offended and I'm a pretty hardcore fan lol. I'm not actually sure who my favourite student is, but I really love Neville and Luna. Especially Evanna Lynch is a real gem! And I agree, when I first saw the movie-Viktor Krum I was kinda like ._. didn't those people read his character description?! He's a good actor though, nothing wrong with that
He just doesn't match the profile in the book.

Do you really think so? Haha. I don't know... No matter how much I try to figure out why you think that... I just don't
To me he's just the perfect personification of evil in the movies
Except I think it's a bit of a shame he had a different face on the back of Quirrell's head... He even had a nose back then

ErikRoger In reply to SaxGirl92 [2011-02-28 04:16:06 +0000 UTC]
This is terrible for me to exploit like this and I pre apologize. This is a burn victim I am kind of thinking of [link] . But Voldemort also has this ape thing going with no nose (but I know he's not supposed to have one).
He does play a good evil character and is into the role. I just kind of think something isn't quite there. I don't know what it is. The only time I thought he really looked the part was when he first came out of the cauldron in GoF. But I'm also fine with how it's done. You know. I'm just too critical, I suppose.
Aside from the nose, I kind of liked that first Voldemort on the back of the head. I like the voice better and the red eyes. <
SaxGirl92 In reply to ErikRoger [2011-03-02 16:32:15 +0000 UTC]
Oh right well at least I see what you mean now...:3
And I agree with you that Ralph Fiennes plays his character well - though I also think he was better in the Goblet of Fire than in the Deathly Hallows... (so far anyway) It seemed to me that in DH part 1 he was a little too - idk, civilised or something?XD He just didn't seem evil enough...
I lol'd at that emoticon you found The red eyes did fit well... But the nose - well, he's just not supposed to have oneXD
