So I recently started re-watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, and one of my favorite parts is the last fight between Zuko and Azula. For the longest time, I was trying to figure out a good picture to paint from that fight, and this is finally what I came up with.Not gonna lie…I am insanely proud of this painting. I kinda whipped through it, too: Combining the times, it probably took around 24 hours – which is amazing for me and paintings haha!
Done in acrylic paint, 22"x28" canvas.

Unzoomed, it looked like digital art, so I was like, "hrm, pretty darn good for digital art". When I read and zoomed in and realized it was acrylics on canvas, I my reaction changed to, "ADSAJKD HOLY FREAKIN CRAP, that is SOOO amazing!"

Fantastic!! The glow of the flames reflected off Azula and Zuko's clothes is amazing. I love the detail of Azula's hair---even though you can't see her face you know her sanity was unraveling with the odd choppiness of her bangs. Despite that, she maintains composure in her fighting stance as flames ignite through her finger tips. I also admire the composition of the red and blue 'zones' in which it seems both Zuko and Azula seem equally matched but occupy opposite vantage points. I could go on but I will conclude by saying your painting captures the intensity of the battle AND also conveys the stalemate between brother and sister. I like to think that Zuko would have beaten Azula on his own but we never got to see that happen (maybe even the creators of the show weren't very sure about this battle either) and maybe Azula was the better fire bender---after all, it was Katarra who defeated Azula.

This is one of the greatest moments in the entire show (seriously, Azula gave me chills!) They really did an amazing job with this fight in the show – setting the mood with the music, and completely cutting out the dialogue until Zuko finally lands a hit on his sister…
It's a good question: Would Zuko have won the fight eventually? I think he would have, too, actually. By that time, Azula's mind was unraveling too fast, and she eventually would have made a mistake that would cost her the fight. I will admit, though, I liked how it ended because it really showed how much guts Katara really had. Can you imagine holding your ground as Azula comes at you, about to shoot you with lightning?? I probably would have run away! haha!

One of my favorite scenes, too! Probably one of the most dramatic and inspiring Fire-bending battles in the entire series, and you're really doing it some serious justice!

You just watched it for the first time?? I hope you liked it (it sounds like you did). I just finished re-watching it, and one of my favorite things about the show is the incredible transformation the characters go through from beginning to end. I didn't watch it sequentially, I skipped around, watching my favorite episodes first, so I could really see how goofy Aang was in the beginning compared to how badass be became in the end, etc.
And the humor is just great!

Oh, we loved it. After we finished the series (we were borrowing it), Mike immediately looked on Amazon, found the set, bought the set, found the manga books that go after the series, and bought those too. *laughs* So we'll likely be watching through that again soon!
