Non 3d users start here- I'm testing a new lighting technique that is achieving nice results but taking forever to accomplish. The model is old but he's very photogenic.
3d users start here- This took over an hour to render with Cinema. No post was necessary this time, I was fairly satisfied with the raw render. I need more memory to render some of the scenes I've been setting up with this type of lighting. Those images will be released late November - early December when I upgrade my desktop. I really like the way hdri rendering exposes reflections. It's very realistic. Fairly simple materials were used for this image but the lighting really brings them alive. HDRI images also work well with bump textures and scenes that include water. If you're an abstract 3d artist, hdri could be an indespensible techinique.

Higher res Ethan!!! I'm absolutely bustin to have a munkeybot adorning my dsktop, but i need something larger. I'm aware that u would probably have to render this piece for days at a larger res as well, so i can understand what's goin on there

heh! if this is how good hdri looks, then I'm damn annoyed that lightwave tells me I can't do it for some reason...
not too sure about the colour scheme, but thats not really that important is it, now? Its a nice image, and a beautiful render.
Can we have an hdri banana in his(/her/its) hand next time hehe
Keep experimenting/playing, cos you're only getting better, and to see the progress of this set of images is really cool...

Usually I wouldn't go and favorite this, mostly becaue I'm concentrating latley on things non-digital...done on paper. But this was just too neat to pass up. I've used 3D rendering programs before, and i know how hard it is. This is amazing, and just to nifty for me not to favorite. I mean, look at the robot! He's so cool. I love robots. Not huge mecha i-have-a-million-and-one-guns-on-me robots. But this kind of simple, blocky, robot. I love. I favorite.
