Description
So a member of the mod team asked me to draw him something he's been wanting to see, and as I had the time over fall break I obliged him.Basically he wanted a suit of armor of mixed Japanese and European styles possessed by a spirit and wielding a sword-spear for cutting and stabbing.

Yeah, its odd, he looks so mobile, which you dont see in either a knight or samurai, brilliant!

Believe it or not, 'heavy' armor was actually pretty easy to move around in. Most of the sword styles between the two cultures were less about blocking or letting the armor do its job, and more about dodging the blow entirely! Thanks again!

I know that about the samurai, but knights?

Knights too. See, plate armor has the weight rather well distributed about your body - it's like wearing normal clothes, only you can't run as fast for as long. Chain mail, on the other hand, less so. Everything pulls down on your back and shoulders, and all those rings (though flexible) do slow down your sword arm - and the rest of you - more than plate armor. Surprising, I know. It goes against common logic that metal plate = heavy and chain mail = light, but it's true.

Ah, but the strength of the wearer is taken account also.

True, very true, but on average it's been found that full chain armor is more encumbering than full plate armor, which is designed around not only being able to take blows but allow the wearer to be as mobile as possible to try and avoid some of the heavier ones. Chain armor was just supposed to take blows, which it does well enough, but all of the extra padding that's needed makes it incredibly sweaty and stuffy, which is what happened to most of the Christian Kingdoms' non-combat casualties during the Crusades. They died from their own chain armor.
