Description
Took me long enough to get around to scanning it, but here it is!During the course of drawing this thing I realized just how much I under-appreciate the minimal effort required for a still shot of a mobile suit that isn't supposed to be in motion. It's significantly harder when trying to make them strike a pose, especially when you're having trouble translating the machine's anatomy into a human posture.
But, in any case, here it is, showing off most of its verniers and weapons!

It's a good pose. The only original drawing that I've done that was none static was this [link]

Thanks. I'm sure you'll get better as you go, I mean, half the stuff I drew two years ago looks like it was scribbled by a three year old to me, so as long as you keep at it you're bound to improve! Which reminds me, how'd you like me to take a crack at the B Gundam Ballusine? I'm curious about it's design.

Go ahead. I had a lot of fun with that one. You can draw any of the MS in my gallery. I made them for fun after all. What do you think of this one? [link]

Definitely good with the detail level, it just needs a bit of work on the proportions of the body. Other than that, nicely done. Which reminds me of something else : you frequently do color versions of Jollyjack's characters, so what if I drew up a B Gundam Ballusine and you colored in the complete TRX-G04 Titan? Sound like a fair trade?

Sure. I can color a pic alright. But the program in which I have to do it with is substandard. It's worked so far for what I needed, but sooner or later I'd like to get a real art program and a tablet to draw with. I'll take a crack at it though if you like.

Have you tried GIMP? I hear it's effectively a free Photoshop, though probably without as many shiny pointless buttons. But yeah, I suppose it's be important to know the color scheme... Actually, the way I have it it's fairly dark, mostly dark grey and black, but I suppose you could splash in some yellow or red here and there, like the V-fin. That's supposed to be the traditional red crest, but white fins. The vents on the chest and legs can be yellow, and the eyes are blue with some red thrown in on the top bit of the "face-mask" like on the RX-78 (you can see what I mean better here - [link] )
I made it darkly colored because I for one am somewhat fed-up with bright and happy colors on combat vehicles, and figured that grey and black suits a machine of war better than blue and red. But yeah... makes trying to color it tricky when it's supposed to be the shades it's kind of already in, doesn't it....

Well I'musing a paint program to lineart it right now. I'mpretty tired so I don't know how far I'll get. It takes me about ten hours to do one of these. Do you want it emailed when it's done? Or do you want me to post it?

You can post it, and I'll post the B Gundam when it's done. We'll just credit each-other for the originals, basically a simple art trade. Takes me a lot less time to make a drawing of a mobile suit than it does for you to color, but I have to sleep first so it'll be several hours before I start on it.

Ok. I've managed to lineart the legs and most of the beam rifle so far. I think I'll learn a lot from your art style

I've got the B Gundam Ballusine done, sans shading so that if you want to color it you wont have to deal with de-shading like you did for the TRX-G04 Titan. I just have to scan it and post it.

I've nearly finished the TRX-G04. I heed to add the booster flames and tweak this and that on it

Whups. Well, for future reference, now you know. Very pale blue. Helps it to not be confused with gunshots and/or flamethrowers.

I tried pale blue but I went with yellow because I remembered that Wing Gundam had yellow flames from it's wing binders. Or at least I think it did......

Yeah, it's been so long since I last saw Wing that I don't really remember myself. But the pale blue/white seems to be standard for "Heroic" machines (and Gundams) while the yellow booster trail is most associated with Zeon. That's part of it, though, is that it's less flames coming from the boosters and more heated exhaust. Particularly nimble machines (Like the Tallgeese) can have such a high output that it may begin with a flame effect but any sort of trail past that is just superheated exhaust that basically glows. Google a few images of afterburners on jet fighters to see a real-life variation. But, in any case, nice job!

Probably with over-sized boosters and control verniers, a hefty amount of over-sized and over-the-top weaponry, and some hot-rod flames.
Nah, I'd try to stay closer to what you have than that. I CAN be moderate. It's just made slightly more difficult after turning the Titan into a walking, flying tank with beam swords, arm-gatlings, wings loaded with missiles and boosters, and other cool toys! In fact, I actually toned it down a bit from what it used to be, which included many SEED style beam spam weapons (hip-railguns and multiple beam cannons) and then toned it up in the Conventional Weapons department. But yeah.
Perhaps I'll take a crack at it! Just now now, I have to finish packing for the return to college, and doing concept art for a sub-mod of a mod for the game Medieval II Total War. I was excited when they asked me for help, ecstatic when they made me Official Concept Artist, then mildly annoyed at the sudden requests for more and more drawings. I've almost done more these past few days than the rest of the summer combined! But then, I WAS pretty lazy when it came to drawing this summer. Trying to start a webcomic when I can't even keep remember what day it is or even get up before 10 AM is troublesome. That, and a distinct lack of views for the comic as opposed to dozens and even hundreds of views for my concept pieces kind of demoralized me a little bit. But then, the mod IS Legend of Zelda based, so it makes sense for their to be more attention to those than my own original story.

That's actually a lot of how I learned - Observe and Emulate. Eventually, your own style becomes distinctive through the emulation of whatever influences you. The more things you mimic and adapt to suit your own style, the more your style matures and becomes truly yours.
If that makes any sense to you...
